r3d Data Epic Flare Guard

Flare Guard

Flare Guard

Hi,
Anyupdate on the flare guard to be released by RED...

Thanks in advance...

Harcharan

The user installable fix is coming first. Should have a date next week if the first production samples test ok.

Is this something that we need to follow up on or will our Bomb Squad Rep contact us?

Thats good !
Even though I don't mind the flare... it really caught me out in a VFX shoot last month... wasnt pretty. Had to resort to the REDONE...
But glad there is a fix coming soon... and free :)

Thanks Deanan :)

Whats the status on the fix? Was shooting ad a big concert yesterday and had a lot of nasty flares, hope the fix is around the corner :)

I'm very happy to hear this is being fixed by Red. It was the one problem that seemed out of place in the Epic universe.

I'm mainly concerned about uninstalling the Underdahl fix - assuming Red's eventual solution is ultimately better? I've got about a month before my next major Epic rental, so if we don't hear anything more from Red in the next week or so I guess I will have no choice...

We just got our 3 epic x cameras the 15th of December or so and it appears that the fix might already be installed. There is nothing shiny inside the mount.

Maybe the red fix is very close then.

George - watch the install video. At the end I remove it, takes about 1 second. Yoink!!

George, don't worry about it. You can easily pull it out of there. Otherwise know as uninstalling.

Thanks Doug! I did see that, but of course what I'm concerned about is what happens after a few months, does the adhesive come off the metal as cleanly after it's been there for a while? Most adhesives would tend to leave some goo behind if they've been there for longer periods.

Still, if I need something temporary by the end of the month that does give me more confidence :)

That's interesting. Are talking about the "gate" area surrounding the OLPF where the problem is?

It would make sense for RED to fix cameras coming out of production so they don't have to deal with it later. I wonder if Scarlet's have the same issue. Anyone with a Scarlet test for the streak flare yet?

And if there is a factory fix available, I would think we'd hear about it soon.

Well, as far as I know this was the last official word and that was 3 weeks ago, so....

So Deanan had said a date should have been known in December. Any update? Much appreciated.

There is another thread from yesterday where Brent from RED has announced that the factory fix is basically here. It's all free and it's user instalable or you can have RED install it for you. It's in the FLAREGATE thread.

Not sure you have it for your next gig though.
