  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

r3d Data Epic Flare Guard

Our part change for this is getting close and almost through the final production stages.
There will be a user installable version and a more through factory installed version.

Looking forward to a Red solution. I added flock to my M a few months ago, no problem with fibers onto sensor. So far. Had a shoot this week, warehouse interior with big open doors near edge of shot. Woot! Big time flare from side with Epic X without flock. Set up my M with the flock treatment and the flare disappeared. BTW, shooting with Duclos 11-16 at 16mm with matte box, not filters. Anxious to update both cameras with the "official" fix. Thank you for the update, Deanan.

Thank you very much for the update, Deanan. I'm hoping this means my Epic-X will ship (whenever that is) with the factory installed version.

Would be possible to arrange for M owners to have this fix done at Red at the same time as having the heat sink swapped out for the lighter one?

Any update on timeline? At least for the quickie solution! I want to shoot the sun again

Yup, we are all anxiously waiting for news... My Epic just came off a movie where this was a real issue. I've been waiting for the "official" fix rather than using something "unofficial" so close to the sensor :) But if the "official" fix doesn't come soon, I may have to use what's available rather than waiting for what's promised.....

Ironic that the Arri IIc had very similar problems :)

The user installable fix is coming first. Should have a date next week if the first production samples test ok.
