Interesting question actually. I haven't yet, but I can see where you're going with that. I'll give this a stab over the weekend.

MacRumors Board is reporting that latest OS X beta may work better with this display (apparently posted by the creator of SwitchResX):

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1811376&page=11

"In 10.10.2 beta, Apple now includes a file similar than the one I made for overriding the EDID. Proof that Apple uses the same kind of "hacks" that we did here...

From what I've seen, their new EDID doesn't set the 4096 resolution as native like mine did, they only exchanged the definition of 4096 at 50 and 60Hz (a solution that we tested with "drecc", and that didn't work to get 60Hz on 10.10.1 on his Mac).

That can mean two things:
- Apple is aware of a problem with this monitor and they're working on it
- they probably have improved the way OS X tries to guess the native resolution within the EDID, to comply with this monitor (and maybe others)

If this is the case, the monitor will work much better natively on 10.10.2 than on 10.10.1. (Probably no need of my file any more)
I however cannot say anything about 60Hz support in 10.10.2, as I don't own this display"

Just a quick update for those of you who don't follow me on instagram.

Here's today's kooky update to making the switch over to a 4K DCI display:

An interesting update to using the 4K DCI monitor as a main display. I've found that standard mice don't really cut it when moving across a 31" 4096x2160 screen, especially if you are a power user. Due to the size and resolution it's ideal to get a higher DPI mouse if you want to navigate effectively. I picked up a Razer DeathAdder that has 6400 DPI and I can now trek across my screen with a flick of the wrist. Fun mixing gaming hardware into systems designed for post-production.

So to sum that up. A standard cheap mouse might not currently be ideal for those who are more active users. Interesting lesson learned there.

Im still keen on this being a Ref monitor out of the UltraStudio 4K.

Ordered one locally for 1200 CAD.

I'm looking for a replacement for my Dual 30" displays. Any reason to keep the old Cinema Displays?

I'll think this will be my new monitor instead of my dual apple cinema 30"....

For the price I think it's a good value and I've certainly been using the heck out of it these last few days. For my workflow and also my clients having DCI 4K and the ability to handle UHD 4K in the same screen makes a heck of a lot of sense. I'm not entirely sure where a 5K monitor fits in with current delivery/resolution standards, but I certainly understand it from a workflow perspective.

So far so good. Adapting to the screen size for general workflow related use has been the most interesting part of the experience for me. It certainly has effected several of the programs I use regularly and mostly positively which is nice. As for playing back Red material it's been a joy.

Phil. Can you confirm this monitor only uses 49watts?

I've been using a gaming mouse for years. Logitech's G9X. Great to have extra buttons for editing/navigating and to increase/decrease the sensitivity with a click of a button..

How can I get two working on an older Mac Pro? Is there a graphics card option for this?

That's what the specs say. I honestly haven't measured the draw, but that seams about right.

Unknown. Keep in mind that performance comes into play when driving a 4K display. I don't know your exact system specs or how it will perform, but you'll need a modern GPU with Display Port 1.2 support for 4K DCI resolution at 60Hz. There's been some discussion elsewhere on the web about HDMI support on Mac, but I am certainly not a Mac hardware specialist at this point.

I have a Mac Edition GTX 680. I have a display port.

According to the specs and requirements that should work over DisplayPort.

ACK!

According to my friend Matt Ryan, the max resolution of my GTX680 is 2860... Any recommended mac graphic cards that will give me 4k? Will Aja Kona 3, or something similar do the job?

Eric.

Andorama has them in stock, now. $1400, no tax and free 5-7 day shipping.

888.216.7500 If you want a rep, I talked to Larry at 2104. Leave a message and he'll get your order done. 8am to 7pm, PST, roughly, though I called a bit after and got a hold of him.

Wonder if they might be into a group buy?

Ready to press buy but cant find this option anywhere on the net.
