Hello,

first time RED user here. I shot a short film this weekend on a RED scarlet. There was a problem transferring the files from the camera to an external drive on set so someone transferred them for me at their house on an external drive. I was only able to open the hard drive on my MacBook laptop & then I transferred them from his external hd to my own external hd to then transfer them to my editing PC. My question is, will I lose any quality in the clips having transferred them so many times / from a Mac hd to a another one? I'm still new to the whole transferring workflow on set so any light that someone can shed on it for me would be great!

thanks

In the future, when dumping from card to HD use shotputpro (or any app that has checksum verification feature). It takes a longer to copy + verify data, but taking longer to ensure each bit is accurately copied is way less stressful than wondering after the fact...

you should not lose any quality no

What he said. You can also use RedCine-X Pro to open up the last generation copy of the footage and check things out. You should be doing this anyway because of this:

I just wanted to point out for anyone working with r3d and Final Cut that it is very important to FIRST modify and save changes to the metadata to the red footage in RedCine BEFORE importing it into Final Cut. Otherwise Final Cut might create it's own 'phantom' metadata file which then can't be accessed by RedCine, and both programs would become disjointed and all the magic of change-anywhere-to-change-everywhere would be gone. Learned this the hard way.

Here is an excellent thread for post workflow:
