Does RED Armor carry over if you upgrade from EPIC X to dragon or do you have to repurchase it for EPIC Dragon after the upgrade?

dadavid

PS: sorry about the typo in the title.

I am pretty confident to say that it carries over, since it is really as an integration/extension of your original warranty, for the body.

And if like me you also got the RR-X do get the Armor on that too.

But it does not transfer over when a camera or what ever item with one, is sold.

90 days of warranty sucks :( Just had a repair of $2700 for my epic, because i had a problem with some lost clips, which showed up as offline in redcine x and on the card. Send the camera in, and they had to replace a board somwhere inside...Really sucked to pay that much so unexpected for a problem which is totally inside the camera and has nothing to with user damage. So when paying $9500 for a upgrade i for sure would expect at least 1 year warranty on it...:S
if you have the customer in mind in the first place, warranty is really important.

That's too bad.

If you purchased armor on your epic x and then upgrade the camera the camera is no longer the camera you put the armor on?

this should change.

Ohh that's pretty rough...

Yeah. It kinda makes you feel like they aren't really wanting to stand by their product. Especially since the RedArmor doesn't cover it-which for some reason I was under the impression that RedArmor would cover the brain no matter what, but then again I never got a sheet that said what it covers, which is weird from a legal standpoint.

+1

I agree, this is really wrong. I hope Red rethinks this, it really makes no sense.

If not, what was the Red Armor for? Stripped 1/4 20 holes on the case? ;)

If it's a factory upgrade, one would expect that there is a basic warranty (and for the price, one would expect at least a year) in addition to any time remaining on the original extended warranty. But not in this case according to the FAQ. WHY??? Can you not buy Red Armor for a new Dragon Brain?

That's quite the consumer level warranty, not pro. I know times are tough and we are getting a great deal, but we also want to protect our deal because times are tough! :D

How I read this is that the dragon camera is still under the red armor , just the new sensor is under a 90 day warranty. This sounds fair to me, specially what I see people do during lens changes.

I disagree. Emphatically. Damage by mishandling is not covered in any case.

Red Armor is a very odd manufacturer warranty. It doesn't seem cover the camera at all, since it doesn't go with the camera when it is sold. It seems, in practice, to cover the owner of the camera. As much a forced-loyalty program as a warranty. It seems really odd, given Red's otherwise excellent product support and customer service.

But if Dragon is not covered, is the new ASIC covered? If not that, what's left that is covered? Some clarification here would be appreciated.

WHAT IS THE DRAGON SENSOR WARRANTY?

The DRAGON Sensor and associated parts and labor is warranted for a period of ninety (90) days.

WILL MY EPIC RED ARMOR COVER MY NEW DRAGON SENSOR?

No, the upgrade is outside the scope of RED ARMOR and only the associated DRAGON sensor warranty applies to the sensor. Your EPIC RED ARMOR will continue to protect the rest of the camera for the original period of coverage.

I don't understand how Red Armor will continue to function, except that we have to put absolute trust in the engineers/technicians at Red to be honest about what parts are what in the event of an equipment failure. How many boards/asics/god-knows-what-else is being replaced in the process of the sensor upgrade? To hear Jim/Jarred talk about all the work, re-working, boards, parts, etc required to make this new sensor tech shine was inspiring, at least until you start to consider the ramifications of a 90-day warranty on all these unknown parts.

People bought Red Armor for a reason: peace of mind and trust that they'd be taken care of in the event their camera has a serious issue. To have that certainty taken away doesn't reinforce this trust or bring much in the way of peace of mind.

I would love to hear that they are reconsidering this warranty issue, or at least give customers the option to cover these upgraded parts to extend through the remainder of their existing Red Armor warranty. They stepped up and are offering a stellar warranty on the new Rocket card (2-years, extendable to 3 years), which is so above and beyond the abysmal 90-day on the original Rocket. I would really hate to have warranty issues overshadow the sensor's performance...fire-breathing is a great thing for a dragon sensor, but it doesn't bode well on tightly-packed circuit boards inside a nuclear reactor / toaster oven.

That they choose not to extend this warranty to anyone past the original owner is fine...it's something that was discussed up front, and it's their prerogative. If they had offered the Red Armor warranty but said that it would not cover any factory upgraded parts, I wonder how many people would have purchased it in confidence.

Both of my cameras, the RedOne and the Epic had issues out of the sudden that needed hardware replacement. Currently my Epic is in repair for non-working BS. Without Red Armor this can ben a expensive adventure.

I propose an additional Red Armor for the new sensor, say 1.000 USD extra to extend the warranty to 3 years.

It's worse for M customers that had a 2 year factory warranty & took out Armour.
