Got to hand it to Red for letting out footage from Komodo with no control over it . It would take a lot of guts to just start handing out cameras and letting everyone post their footage of a brand new camera system. Not many camera manufactures would do it . Especially since this camera is of the most widely anticipated camera of the year. And, I'm not judging this footage as good or bad in anyway .

Pretty impressive if it was nothing but ambient light in that mixed light environment. I think that gives you a good idea of what kind of adversity it can handle. Audio... In the context of it was the built-in nat mic, it sounded ok, but in the absolute sense, he needed to be mic’d.

Thanks for sharing, Curtis! I agree with others-- like how it handles mixed lighting, and am surprised by the quality of the internal mic. (Better than it has to be just for a sync scratch track.)

(And I still don't have a clue about what a manifold does, but this looks like a damn good one!)

Those skin tones look amazing for your lighting conditions in this ad, I’m curious to know what color correcting and grading went into this.

Very basic color correction was done in RedCineX.

I adjusted Kelvin, tint and pulled the blacks into place with curves.
Just used the scopes to get everything in line.

The Key shot with the guy talking ended up at 4690k and +1.5 tint. (yes added a touch of green)
I did this just on the scopes as I did NOT take a color reading on location.

The location has a bunch of mixed light but the primary light source are high bright fixtures with DAYLIGHT balanced bulbs.
There are also some sodium vapor over head lights and light under the counter (as seen in shot) that I have no idea what it is.

So I would say the dominant source is daylight with a healthy does of sodium vapor added in.
Might not be as impressive as many thought under fluorescent but I can tell you this,
Komodo has some super power when it comes to skin tone!!! SKIN TONE is crazy good on this camera, or at least it's
the best I've seen for what I like to see in skin tone!!!!

Shooting a bunch of beach fashion/lifestyle later as the real test. I'll post when I can.

I also thought the image was terrific, given the limitations you had. And I had to turn up my sound to notice the flaws. Very impressive.

Three things that are not excusable: unstable footage, OOF footage, and not enough DOF. If you didn't have a tripod, no problem, put the heads down and film them on a flat surface. Then, stop the lens down. If you can't do that, slowly rack the focus appropriate to the features of the subject. I want to see the product properly, please! I don't want to see focus-defocus on an ad. In a narrative there's a good reason to do that, and it works. Not in stuff like this. (Hey, I'm not a DP so at the end of the day, you get to get on with your job while I'm writing from an armchair).

Please upload moving images from this. Raw shots? Roll outs? So we can see all the moments with the cam. Talking about the fitness model on the beach shoot. Also why are you always shooting in 5k?

The beach fitness model shoot will be a week or so before i can upload.
That was a client project that has to approved before i can release footage.
They where kind enough to let us have stills.

As for the 5k, i shot that to get 48fps. It’s not much of a sensor
crop and in my testing i really couldn’t see a difference from 6k.
So i chose the frame rate.

I have a few drum videos i shot on Komodo i’m about
to release. I’ll link to those when i do.
