Sorry if this is a repost but my quad charger is now (more and more) flashing between red and green instead of orange. What do I do?

Per, you should allow to cool down your REDVOLTs at least a few minutes before charging them. This flashing indicates a temperature error.

Cheers, Ulf

i got this when batterys were cool also, unplug the cord from the charger, wait 5-10 seconds and plug it back in and it should work, this fix has worked for me numerous times

I've seem to have a chronic case of this issue. I'll have 1 or 2 slots go bad on me and always flash red/green after about 1 minute of charging. This is not a heat issue, as the problem persists and never goes away. Unplugging, or reseeding batteries does not fix it. Waiting a few days and trying again in room temperature also does not fix.
I've sent it in for repairs, Red fixed it, and problem returns after a few charging sessions. Red then replaced with a brand new one... all is good for a while, then a slot will fail again. After several repair and replacements, my Quad Charger is having this problem again. One thing I did notice is that the slots that go bad always seem to be the ones that charge Redvolt XLs. As the 2 slots that can only serve the regular size Redvolts never seem to have problems.

Is anyone else experiencing similar issues? I'm already on my 3rd-4th replaced Quad Charger, it hard to believe that i'm just getting a string of lemons..... And I always take very good care, never had any extreme shooting conditions, never dropped, always charge in nice temperature controlled rooms, with no power drops.....

you've tried unplugging the outlet cord from the charger waiting 10 seconds and plugging it back in with no success? This has always worked for me, i dont even bother trying with pulling batteries in or out as ive never really had success with that

Was this issue ever resolved for those of you having this problem. My quad charger has started doing this. I live in South Africa so for me to send the charger back to Red is not worth it but I do not want to buy a second charger and have it do the same thing to me in a few months. I have tried everything pulling out the power cord doesn't help
any more. Is it a problem with the charger unit or the XL batteries.
Thanks

It would be awesome if future versions of REDVolt chargers would allow you to plug in a battery straight out of the camera and auto-detect when the battery is cool enough to begin charging.

The battery / charger already have the circuitry to detect temperature, they just need a timeout function that re-scans the batteries every minute or so without requiring them to be re-seated.

It would help on shoots with just one AC where they need to get the batteries on the charger as quickly as possible, then get back to work without having to wait for the batteries to cool down.

This used to be an issue with the Red Brick Chargers. A firmware upgrade did exactly what you're asking for (wasn't user upgradable). No idea if it's possible to user upgrade a quad charger.

My issue has been resolved by Red replacing it with a new charger... Cause of problem is still unknown. Just keeping fingers crossed it won't resurface... I went ahead and switched to v-mount batteries as to not lose out on work should charger die again.

I have same problem with quad chargers. At first I had 6 pcs. Redvolts and one Quad chg. Recently I've purchased 2 pcs. XL Redvolt batteries and Quad charger. After only 5 days of shooting in studio conditions chargers started to make problems with charging. Both XL's and small Redvolts on both chargers could not charge no matter how cool they were. Now on both chargers only left side positions in charger can charge small redvolts. It seams like XL redvolts ruin chargers. I'm in a middle of shooting feature film and have more than 2 weeks to go.

Now RED support says that I should send charger and batteries to them.

I there anyone not having problems with redvolt XL bateries and Quad charger?

I know that I'll be going for V lock option for sure no matter what outcome will be.

Same problems here. Even cooled down batts with numerous reseating and unplugging games - just the same blinking green and red indications. No charge until next day, after shoot was crippled with no power. Anyone had any luck with getting Red to upgrade the quad charger firmware?

Same problem here and no real solution from Red.
Brand new RedvoltXLs, charger and quad module.
This has nothing to do with battery temperature, the batteries have been off the camera all afternoon.
The charger has been doing this since new, literally out of the box this has been the problem that has persisted and has gotten worse.

I think RED is looking into this exact issue with all Quad Chargers. Out of curiosity, does your charger have the "JET" logo underneath? Those are newer models.

I've already returned our charger once, and it seems like we need to return it again. I even know a DoP who bought several Quad-chargers, just to always have one available when a unit or two needs to be sent back to Red for repair.

RED: Recall and replace, please!

This is the only Red product I've had that can not be justified by any quality standard.

Agreed. I had mine sent in a few months ago. Got it back, after paying RED a $100 "evaluation fee" to tell me my Redvolt XL's were charging fine, but that my charger was faulty. They sent me a new charger supposedly, and two weeks later I had the same problem with my new charger and my XLs. I can't afford to send in my qu ad every 2-4 weeks... even if RED pays shipping under RMA... it just needs to be recalled, and replaced.

All,

Would like to add my woes here too. Sent it in, waited a week, got back charger with the same problem. Really frustrating. Yes, I plug and re-plug and it works intermittently. I'd like to see it replaced with a charger that works as advertised. RED, would be great if you guys stepped up to the plate and did the right thing here.

I agree, ive grown accustomed to having to check the charger 15 min after i start charging to make sure its working and that i dont have to replug

Are there any positive stories of these quad chargers working without issues?

I kind of think Red needs to stop selling this item immediately until it is resolved. People sue companies for stuff like this. It is poor business and hurts the brand. We all love and support this company which is why the lack of activity seems odd. Does any quad owners have good stories?

Also, why must these batteries need to cool before charging when no other battery like Sony or Anton Bauer or lipos need to cool? Am I wrong?

As far as I know, no batteries need to cool first, other then red volts. If they must, at least allow them to be put on the Quad/travel chargers and automatically start charging when cold enough and not flash red/green until pulled and put back on (when cold).

I was this close to buying a quad till this thread.
