  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Quad Charger and REDVOLT XL...In stock now shipping

I don't believe those are real-world estimates.
I'm lookin' forward to 'someone' posting what run time they're getting on an XL, hopefully soon.

Well, you do get roughly 30 minutes out of a 30 w/h REDvolt - that much has been established in the "real world." And since XLs are 89w/h, why would you think they'd not be proportional? And, keep in mind, there has been little to no power management written into the firmware yet. These figures should only improve as firmware is upgraded.

That was my thought as well Terry. But I've been hearing more like 17-23 minutes.
I'm looking forward to Dominik's eval of the XT.
That might sway my decision as well, and as you say, firmware hasn't been optimized yet.

i consistently get just over 30 minutes per redvolt, and my dionic 90's last consistently around 90 minutes. So I can only think the redvolt XL's will last the same, unless the battery module somehow steals some wattage (which i'd find hard to believe)

Well,

needs to be made clear that the time you get out of the REDVOLT battery does indeed varies by what elements you have connected to the EPIC and what resolution/frame rate one is shooting at, as well as the speed of the fan, and of course also weather conditions, as in my travels and great exchange of HOT and COLD have also made a difference.

So 30 minutes is only at an optimal, otherwise you'll get closer to 18/20 minutes.

Hey everyone! Will be posting charge times and run times in my thread today. Check it out :thumbup1:

Now with the Quad charger and 20 Redvolts total, I should have in off HOT SWAPPABLE power to get me going the all day!!

I might have to get even more XL Redvolt, and an extra Charger, will see... ;)

Oh, the Rod Top mount is a nice little addition too, more ways to mount the Motors and other goodies.. ;)

RedVolt XL:

Weight: about 1 lb, 10 ounces.

Dimensions (LxWxH): 3 5/16" x 3 3/16" x 3 9/16"

Will NOT fit in the side handle. Hopefully the XLs will be the size of REDvolts soon.

Duration depends on power draw (ie, what modules, displays, etc are attached). But XL is approximately twice the size of a regular REDVolt so....

XL will not fit in the side handle?

There was once an idea of a battery grip like on DSLRS, but i think this has been canned, but there's definitely more stuff to come to use the redvolts, and most certainly also for the XLs.

Sometimes I get excited reading a long 10 page plus thread. Thanks. Must be morning in Germany.

Hehe, almost. It's 11:20 a.m. right now. Taking a REDuser coffee break. ;)
They won't be able to shrink the XLs in size, but all the REDVOLTs will have a longer run time as soon as the power management is implemented into the firmware. And I'm sure we'll see a different XL support other than the QUAD module soon.

Just got my XLs and quad charger! Man they look good. All three of my Epics are out on a shoot so I won't get to test these until next week.
