  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Public Beta of STORM Released

Hi James

I see you can easily roundtrip from storm to Final Cut but what about editing in Final Cut and then go to storm for grading and conforming.
That's what everybody is realy waiting for.

Shooting Red - edit the proxys in FCP - export an xml to Storm - grade the RAW files and export to the format of choice.

Does this already work?

Thanks for the info.

Tim

wowhhhh...
up and running in superspeed!!!
like what i see on the first fast check ( red rocket running smooth like butter )
awsome
thank you all

Thanks Tim,
Yes, that should work right now, with one minor adjustment. Make your selects in Storm and output QT proxies to FCP. When the timeline comes back from FCP, Storm will recognise the clips and conform to the R3Ds
All the best,
Chris

Hi James
I've been using it this afternoon, it looks very promising. The tag system in combination with the search is very cool. Finally making notes might actually save time :)

Here's a few things I ran into. Maybe it is of use for you guys, maybe you already know about it. Here goes anyway:
- One of my XML's gave a 1094 Parse rate but no framerate fault. But that was quite a timeline, just to see what happens. Many transitions, layers of video and audio, and also time remapping on audio (on a non R3D file). It was bound to fail, but... would it be possible that if an XML-import shows a failure, we can 'simply' ignore it? So that the rest of the XML that works will load anyway. It can be frustrating if for one - sometimes - hard to find reason, a load completely fails.
- I got a few hangs on XML import. Same XML worked fine later.
- A couple of times the preview window would go black on one clip all of a sudden, showing nothing. While other clips would show normally afterwards, instantly in just a click. All footage from the same drive. When importing a whole timeline, things go black sometimes too. Not using a rocket, ATI Radeon HD 4870 graphic card inside mac pro.
- If I am not mistaken, dragging a look straight to the timeline doesn't seem to work, but has to be done to the clip in the bin. Is that correct, and if so, will that be done later?

And a question: will there be MXO2 support someday as well? That could make an excellent combo on a laptop..

Thanks,

Henk

Hello,

Getting black frames when loading in R3Ds as well. When I clicked on the rocket icon, it crashed.

Something to do with the new Rocket firmware maybe?

Thanks!

ATF

Specs:

Mac Pro (early 2008) Quad 3.0GHz w/ 16gb memory
ATI 3870 w/ 512mb memory
CalDigit HDOne 8tb PCIe RAID
RedRocket - updated firmware
OS X 10.6.5 - all updates installed

Hi!.
I tested Storm, and I like the idea of this application!, but I have some basic request at least for me.

Is possible to import an EDL?. Or only XML, I have problems importing XML from final cut pro.

Storm will be 64bit?

At half or full resolution Storm only use 2,5 cores with playback or render. This is so poor performance in comparison with davinci. I know that rocket solve this, but... if other can why not storm?.

I have some audio problems... not fully supported yet?

Will be decklink or aja monitoring out supported?.

I don't undesrtand why if all people have a tangent wave, at least davinci people, you move to euphonix firstly... umm... no sense to me.

thanks for the efforts!, but long way to finish something usefull.

saludos,

Jose.

Ahhh...

Graded with RC-X set to redgamma2 and redcolor2

will try deleting rsx

Nope.. still black :(

HI Simon,

We can't support redgamma2 and redcolor2 until we get the latest SDK installed. Not sure what the effect of loading material that has it set would be...

Hi Henk,

Thanks for the comments. Yes we are currently trying to ignore any effects that Storm doesn't recognize in the XML but they'll be various complex cases which were not prepared for yet (e.g. XML contain many effects or unsupported file formats etc). We'll continue to test complex XML's and we'll be able to improve this functionality in Storm soon.

We are currently looking into the occasional black frames being displayed in the viewer and we have various thoughts on what's causing the problems. Just a thought, are your clips using either Red color2 / Red Gamma2 in the clips which are going black?

Dragging looks into Timelines is not supported at the moment, I'm hoping that we'll be making some nice improvements to the Timeline very soon.

Thanks,

James.

Hi James, I'm unable to download the beta - after completing the form and clicking the 'Continue' button, I get a "QUERY FAILED" ... "MySQL server has gone away" message. Tried several times now... any ideas what's happening?

I've deleted the RSX and still wont load though. Seems iffy no ?

Hi James,

Storm seems to be a great pre-edit, selected takes tool that connects very well to FCP and from there to anyone else, in my case Smoke. Very valuable, thanks!

I have an issue that I would love to see fixed soon:

Storm has WAV support but TC is not shown in the bin, hence I cannot sort R3Ds and WAV by TC and sync them accordingly. To have this would be very important. I'm sure that TC syncing is highly on your list.

Warm Regards to London,

Hans

Hi Jose,

Storm does not support importing EDL's at the moment and it will only support FCP XML's (cuts only with no effects). I'm not sure what problems you are experiencing but please do let us know and we will try our best to help.

Currently we have almost finished 64bit support for Storm so we'll be providing this to the public once it's been tested by our QA team

Storm can playback camera Audio or you can import Broadcast WAVs, we'll be adding further Audio functionality in the near future. Please let us know what Audio problems your encountering and we'll investigate

We know we'll need to support other cards, thanks for suggesting decklink or aja as this will help us o determine what cards we will be supporting first.

Thanks,

James.

Hi Steven, which browser are you using? We're checking with our webmaster for a possible cause.

Thanks,

Hey Chris,

I'm having problems batch exporting clips from the In Tray - It only seems to hold just the last encode - all others become useless.

My workflow is...

Import folder
Highlight all clips in In Tray
File / Export
Choose settings (Pro Res HD HQ, 1/2 Good Debayer settings, Destination folder (XSAN), HD Frames size)
Hit Export...

Only the last clipe encodes propperly...

Please help!
