  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I just figured out that SGO Mamba does exactly that, plus you get a whole bunch of other cool post tools. Handles R3Ds directly.

Really, really nice color grading tools too (Mamba's parent software is Mistika, and many of the tools are similar.)

Just a fun find I thought I would share, because most people have never even heard of Mamba, let alone the Prores thing and it's only 245 British pounds.

Roberto-

Don't you have to add the RED option (49) to the Mamba (239), then add the 2K (19) and if finishing in 4K (90) render options? That's 397 British pounds.

Marcos I think there are "full packages" - at least I think there used to be when we got it.

The way we use it just as a convertor is we just input the 1080p/2K finished files as generated by DaVinci, After Effects, etc, add no filters, nothing, and use it to convert to 1080p/2K Prores of any flavor. As such our version cost 258 ponds - if only doing 1080p masters you would not need any add-ons using it that way.

At any rate 397 pounds won't buy you much of a Mac...

The FX features are awesome, and those would require the Red add-on if you wanted to input Red files directly, but I look at one as bonus
over the other. Cinec is just a transcoder, and costs about as much (in some configs more) than Mamba - and you don't get a whole suite of very cool post tools thrown in.

We've yet to have a client want a 4K output, nor even express mild interest.

Does anyone have access to Dragon R3D files they could share with the guys over at Cinemartin so they can be sure it works with their ProRes encoding software for PC? I'm happy to pass them along, I just couldn't find any links to Dragon raw files. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing! I did some searching and found a post about this on dvxuser. After reading through it I decided to purchase it. Will test with Davinci Resolve on my Win7 machine and report back. For the price I thought it was worth a shot. Supposedly allows you to render from any program that supports quicktime directly into their "prores compatible" codec from Windows.

The Singapore support team told me that Da Vinci can't add non-Apple third party ProRes solutions due to their contract with Apple.

Too bad. I wish that contract included the creation of ProRes on Windows.

There is a slightly gamma shift on the Mirazain. Then again there is also a slight gamma shift on a Macbook pro with Apple's codec so A) Screw ProRes and B) It's close enough that I'm going to say it works. :P

Hey Gavin in what software are you comparing them?
I go from dpx to pretty much anything with a .mov extension without any change in color/gamma. I use after effect to export and to view. If I need to go to prores I use cliptool z convert, that is using win 7.
I,ve also had similar experience in Resolve 10 under mavericks, the prores match exactly. Again comparing them in After.

cheers,
antoine.
