Hey guys,

Just some advice, I want to shoot a job using PRORES422HQ @50fps (25p timeline) but iv noticed the crop factor is huge at 2k even with the 4.7in touch screen giving me options up too 4.5k, is it good practice to utilize the 2K (HD/FF) when shooting PR or is there any other monitoring system to frame my shot better using this codec?

thanks

Steven

Hi Steven,

Ok so I just tested this out and it worked out great. I would shoot 6k 50fps or 60fps with a codec output to 2k PRO RES 422HQ. It came out really good, crop wasn't too bad, you still had a little bit to work with if you wanted to punch in a little bit. I was very surprised. If you have any more questions let me know.

Look the prores are down samples of what you shoot so dont set your resolution in camera to 2k just because you want 2k prores files. You should use as much as possible of the sensor and then just set your prores recoding to 2k. Then the camera down sample your 8k helium,6k dragon or 4.5k raven to 2k from the higher pixel count comming from the sensor. So that does not crop the image at all it simply down samples it.
