  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Don't know much about ProRes implementation on the DSMC[SUP]2[/SUP] bodies. Will Raven record ProRes alone or only simultaneously with Redcode?

Life saver! I really can't wait- I'm curious as to what the bit-depth is of the Pro-Res and whether or not it maintains the same DR as redcode

2k as in a sensor crop?

i was looking forward to shooting raven and instantly having access to 1080p pro res files, is that something raven can do, or was i interpreting the info wrong.?

The Ravens ProRes capabilities are the same as Weapons except the ProRes files will be limited to 2K. Thats a 2K resolution file from the full sensor - meaning its not cropped. So yes, you can use the ProRes files immediately.

The FAQ states there's no LUT support, but you can still choose color spaces/transfer curves, so something like RedLogFilm or similar for the ProRes recording, correct?

It would be logical to treat the prores's more or less like the RAW files, as flat + metadata files.

I dunno yet if RED is implementing a CDL header in their prores files, but if not there are a few solutions on their way that would take the log signal and transform it with or without a grade/look for on-set preview or post processing.

Prores redlogfilm is not RAW, but it is also a very robust format to work with, if treated right.

Hmm, so no 3d LUTS on Raven? What else is missing?

So a 2K sensor crop to ProRes for Raven, a 4K sensor crop for Weapon? Is this correct?

No. Maximum output resolution of ProRes is 2K for Raven of whatever resolution/format you are shooting in within the 4.5K sensor. Specifically a maximum of 2K ProRes 422 HQ up to 60fps.

Weapon MG is 2K up to Apple ProRes 4444 XQ up to 60fps.

Weapon CF/Forged is Apple ProRes 422 HQ up to 4K 29.97fps or Apple ProRes 4444 XQ up to 2K up to 120fps. I'm betting there's more to be squeezed out of the CF/Forged models on this front too.

Long and the short of that info is processing power makes up for that difference in a big way.
