  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hello,

I was wondering if it is possible that the in camera recorded Prores file could mimic the Frame guide ?
I would love to work in a 1.91 format and give this to the edit even if I record a 1.94 R3D or use the Lookaround.
On the format aspect ration could we also have a 1.91 format choice (full DCI container)?

Shoot a physical paper chart, line it up to the reticle in the camera, and then hand that to editorial and say "this is the guideline for the sizing you should be using every day."

I personally think 1.90 is a goofy aspect ratio and you'd be better off using one that actually relates to the standards already in place, like 1.78, 1.85, 2.39, and so on. I get that there are some shows who have the clout to insist on a non-standard aspect ratio like 2.00, but at the same time, I think it's kind of silly in most of these cases. Of all the things to worry about in a show, the aspect ratio should be might low on the list.

*tears* I feel very alone as I'm working on a 1.9:1 aspect ratio 4K display right this second and delivered my last couple of shoots in DCI 4K.

But, hey, I'm weird :)

But, yeah, it's a bit off the beaten path of HD/UHD aspect ratios and 2.4:1.

Yes... but the goofy ones are the DCI folks. They invented the 2048x1080 or 4096x2160 1.91 format. They could have made it 1.85... 1998x1080.
The DCI standard is 1.91 not 1.85 with black bars....

Never the less, If I shoot 1.85 with the Frameguide I should also obtain, as an usefull option, 1.85 in the Prores.

DCI 4K Full = 4096x2160
DCI 4K Scope = 4096x1716
DCI 4K Flat = 3996×2160
UHD 4K = 3840x2160

Theatrically this "isn't a problem". Television and displays however, are letterboxville unless it's UHD 4K or the screen itself isn't 16x9.
