  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Prometheus...

Ridley confirmed it in an interview. Said they dialed it back a bit because it was too on the nose.

But he was on his way back '2000 years ago'...if you allow 60-80 years, that puts you right around Jesus' death.

Interesting.

Now remember, the black goo did not "kill" anyone. So I don't think it would "destroy" earth, rather change it. The guy that was torched didn't die from the goo, or even being torched. In fact it the good made him stronger. The same is true for the worms on planet, growing to large killer snakes and the alien aborted baby octopus creatre. The mother of the Xenomorph. The goo made the creatures more powerful, perhaps a form of rapid biological evolution.

There is no doubt that the engineer was on a mission to fly somewhere, perhaps indeed Earth. So why does the engineer, knowing full well there are other ships, choose to kill the girl instead of another ship to fly? Was this the only ship with the goo inside? Certainly the only one we explored in the film.

I also don't get why the holographic log showed these engineers panicking, what were they running from?

The torch killed Holloway.

That was Fifield that came back as the mutated zombie/xeno.

Just saw Prometheus in IMAX at 'RAVE' at the Howard Hughes center. The 3d was super-cool, but also distracting. Would of enjoyed the movie just as much in 2D. There was crap on the right lens/filter/whatever that came and went throughout the film. (Pretty freaky, though when people take their place in front of you after the move starts- very MST3K!)

Not just blowing smoke here: I also saw 'Loom' at NAB on a 'still in development' projection system - and that was MUCH better 3d. Cleaner, sharper, and not distracting. I'm sure the proper 'personal optics' (Oakley) helped, but I'm pretty sure I won't be patronizing that IMAX screen again.

You know, I had the same experience. Went to see it in IMAX 3D, and they gave us different glasses from the common RealD ones, funky yellow frames with bigger lenses. I figured at first that it was to help fit in the screen (didn't fit) but after fiddling with them I found they use linear polarizers instead of the circular found in the RealD. There was significant bleed between the eyes, with each eye ghosting to the other. I found it very distracting, but managed to ignore it enough and focus on the film. They must have a different contract for their 3D system at that IMAX, who knows. But now i know, and will likely avoid it (not a huge 3d fan anyhow, only for films where it's likely used well and was shot in 3D).

Putting things in US box office perspective...

Ted ($54.1 million) outgrossed Prometheus ($50 million) and The Muppets ($42 million) in the opening weekend...

Yes, an R-rated comedy about an animated vulgar teddy bear beat out both the Alien prequel and Kermit...
and I just can't get myself excited to see another Spiderman remake this week...

Should I have been rooting for the Engineer to win in the end, to save us from a sequel?

that was a female that shoved her (eh hem) down his throat? I would call that the father alien that raped that Engineer.

explain also the "fascinating" green sparkely goo found by David in the beginning on the controls and which was never addressed again.

Movie looked great and Im excited for EPIC, but I saw it twice and the story got worse. reading into that mess is like a first time director looking past all their glowing mistakes - happens.
I would put this as my least favorite Ridley Scott film... and no conjecture or interviews are going to change that. Just reading your post makes me giggle
just as did most of this gorgeous 5K B-movie did :P - Give me the 4 hour director cut and I might change my mind but not likely.

Haven't been around here much since Scarlet came out, just a quick visit to give kudos for the amazing visuals on both Spiderman3 and Prometheus. Truly Epic visuals! If any other camera system claims that they can match or beat what Epic has achieved on this two productions, they must be dreaming, or smoking some really good stuff on their now empty changing tent.

Now that we saw what Ridley Scott did to ALIEN with Prometheus should we really allow him to do BLADE RUNNER 2?

Peter

We don't have to 'allow' him, he's the filmmaker, it's his choice.

That being said, I really hope he chooses another screenwriter... My god, Prometheus was one very badly written movie.

I just wish Ridley and his team to work a little bit more on a script side, if you know what I mean. Rest is good.

Prometheus sequel has just been made official. 2014/2015 target date but no script in sight because they haven't locked in the writing talent.

This was one movie that surpassed the first "Alien" in my eyes. Purely brilliant. Two BIG thumbs up for Ridley and RED.

Love the upside down plant.

Some people thought the writing was bad, even dumb... Whatever the case, I keep having questions about the story and have not yet make this conclusion.

So the Engineer on earth, at the waterfall in the beginning, sacrifices himself to give life to a sterile earth, thus creating humans?

So, roughly 2000 years (because the severed head dated back 2000 years) before 2094, they were preparing a bio weapon to deliver to earth. What were they planning? What stopped them from taking off?

"To create life, sometimes you have the destroy it first?" Now the bio weapon does not actually KILL. It mutates, making both the infected scientist stronger and the alien baby genetically very strong. So I assume they were trying to "evolve" us in their minds, of course, this is just as good as killing all humans in our minds. We all know how crazy strong Xenomorphs are, you can't get rid of them or stop making sequels. So they created us as an experiment and didn't like the results, so try again?

I'm very curious what happened to the Engineers 2000 years ago, to show them running for their lives to the cockpit, and why all the piled up bodies? The bio weapon got lose right? So what were they running from, crazy mutated version of themselves? So what happened to the crazy mutated version? Are they living on the planet somewhere or did they all die out? They couldn't open the doors to the cock pit, being so crazy strong and all? Did it look like the "revived" head was infected by the bio weapon?

Now, what about the earth maps in the cave paintings? Huge beings point to a star patter than lead to their bio weapon manufacturing planet? Maybe not a map, but a warning. "If you guys get too crazy, we'll release this crazy weapon from this far off planet, so be careful Egyptians, Mayans, Sumerians and all you other cave people!"

I believe it all makes sense with the right perspective and explanation. I believe the story leaves more for discussion, especially spiritually and philosophically. "It is what I choose to believe." I'm looking forward to the next one.

BTW, did Riddly confirm if this was a prequel to Alien or a separate universe?

in the commentary he says its loosely based on information in aliens but not meant to be a prequel. Also the planet name in Promtheus is LV223 and aliens is LV426

The first hour or so with David wandering around the Prometheus was very good and very, very promising. Sometime after that it all fell apart for me though, and I'm painfully disappointed. It was beautifully--gorgeously--shot however.

That was my perspective as well.

Coming soon on Blu-ray:

Interestingly, the American TV commercials for the home video release say, "All your questions will be answered!" I dunno... I have a whole lotta questions...

Was "falling apart" pieces lost you? When did it start to go wrong?

Guess I'll have to have a sitdown with Ridley to get my questions answered.
