  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Prometheus...

Does any one know which theaters are showcasing in 4K? Is there a list in various cities? Is it worth it in 3D? I haven't seen it but I don't what to know plot points, story or characters performances like most are commenting here on the thread.

I just got to see this last night. Wow....I was blown away.
Visually, the movie was stunning. One of the best I've seen in a long, long time. But that was just part of the great movie. I thought the casting and acting were great. I loved the story. I appreciated that it wasn't just a pick em off one by one horror movie. I didn't think it was slow....I was interested in the story and dialogue from the get go. I thought the horror was appropriately spaced throughout. The tension and horror were created more with atmosphere, lighting, and camerawork rather than just gore. I know the movie is going to stick with me. I'm sure I'll be thinking about it constantly for the next couple of days. Congrats to Ridley Scott and to the Prometheus team for creating such a, in my opinion, masterpiece. Congrats to Jim, Jarred and the Red team for creating a camera that could bring the Prometheus vision to life.

I'll definitely see it again. Can't wait for the sequel.
 
Seeing it in IMAX 3D is a must

So who went back and watched "Alien" & "Aliens?" There are there others of merit to flash back to?

well, alien3 is alright. but that's about it. even though I love jean-pierre jeunet's other movies, alien:ressurection is awful. and I won't even mention those crossover miscarriages that followed.

just my opinion ;)
 
I wish Prometheus to be a re-launching of "Alien's" universe in a new version, like parallel storyline comparing to story line we know. And come on, you gonna be kidding me! Everything after "Aliens" like 3,4 or whatever was terribly awful! I think ideas show in Prometheus - like Life panspermia theory, etc. all this ideas are eons beyond "old" Alien Universe. Amazing movie. Waiting for directors XXXL extended cut. Please.
 
I saw it last night as well, and the trailers for this EPIC film included Total Recall, Flight, and Snow White/Huntsman. I basically felt like I was watching a theatrical presentation of the RECON thread. EPIC, EPIC, EPIC... epic.

Just saw Prometheus in IMAX at 'RAVE' at the Howard Hughes center. The 3d was super-cool, but also distracting. Would of enjoyed the movie just as much in 2D. There was crap on the right lens/filter/whatever that came and went throughout the film. (Pretty freaky, though when people take their place in front of you after the move starts- very MST3K!)

Not just blowing smoke here: I also saw 'Loom' at NAB on a 'still in development' projection system - and that was MUCH better 3d. Cleaner, sharper, and not distracting. I'm sure the proper 'personal optics' (Oakley) helped, but I'm pretty sure I won't be patronizing that IMAX screen again.
 
A QUESTION that's been nagging me since release.

Why do the engineers want to kill the people on earth so desperately? They make a killer bio weapon just to take us out? Why all the glyphs on earth with the weapon planet, the invitation for us to find them? Are they the creators of the human race in this narrative?

And why are the engineers running in their ship through holographic playback, the bio weapon got loose and is attacking them?

And one finally had enough, stole the bio weapon fluid and off'd himself on earth, inadvertently (or knowingly) planting his DNA on the planet that would become earth. Within the engineers DNA were specific dreams or memories that at a certain point in evolution would manifest itself in some what rudimentary cave drawings depicting the star charts.

Would be eons later that the engineers would find out of the betrayal by one of their own, when looking thru their telescopes and realizing earth gave a signature of being colonized by one of their own kind.

This would not stand for myriad of reasons and the engineers set out to destroy our planet with their black goo etc.


The engineers, being clones and cult-est (the big head cult), have become exceedingly twisted over the eons with self reinforcing hive mind think.

They are just determined fucks with no real real goals, and at the last moment their power lust manifested in their ultimate bio weapons... just got away from them; and killed them all (the holograph is a security/log/warning system).


The real answer is MORE like CHAOS, entropy whatever you want to call it... it (their creation) took them down that ultimate peg.

To them we are a known quantity being nothing more then ants to be squished (that is why the awakened one so brazenly crushed the crew in the chamber and couldn't care less).


Of course it could just all be space Jesus's fault... but I like my version better!

The script is out there on the net (even late last year). A best guess is, they tried their genetic experiment to create life similar to their own on dozens of planets. Let's assume that Earth was one of the ones they felt was a failure, so they want to end the experiment. They did create the human race -- through puke. (Literally.) My assumption is that the cave drawings were misinterpreted.

Yes. That guess was expressed in dialog from one of the actors.

I thought it was a beautiful film with extremely good cinematography and great set design, with a very muddled story and an unsatisfying ending. But I'm glad the film did well, simply because I'm a fan of Ridley's work, and I like the fact that he gambles and takes chances.

Ridley confirmed it in an interview. Said they dialed it back a bit because it was too on the nose.

But he was on his way back '2000 years ago'...if you allow 60-80 years, that puts you right around Jesus' death.

Now remember, the black goo did not "kill" anyone. So I don't think it would "destroy" earth, rather change it. The guy that was torched didn't die from the goo, or even being torched. In fact it the good made him stronger. The same is true for the worms on planet, growing to large killer snakes and the alien aborted baby octopus creatre. The mother of the Xenomorph. The goo made the creatures more powerful, perhaps a form of rapid biological evolution.

There is no doubt that the engineer was on a mission to fly somewhere, perhaps indeed Earth. So why does the engineer, knowing full well there are other ships, choose to kill the girl instead of another ship to fly? Was this the only ship with the goo inside? Certainly the only one we explored in the film.

I also don't get why the holographic log showed these engineers panicking, what were they running from?
