  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ProLine Film Gimbal co-developed by me :)

We're still working on it, but imagine a MYT Satin head that you use to control the movement of the gimbal. On the head, instead of the camera, is the monitor.

Oh ok cool. So if I understand you correctly, moving the monitor would transfer to the gimbal and move the camera!?

What'd be cool is an ipad joystick: video feed plus the accelerometers and any movement past a certain threshold would drive out of majestic mode to pan the camera. You could even wire z to rack focus, so moving the ipad forward and backward say 1 foot was the entire focus range. I'm sure stuff like this is in the works.

Again, we're not trying to reinvent the wheel, yet :) We'll be using a standard ALEXmos board, but redesign everything else: the gimbal, the remote, etc... I believe that there are situation where small joysticks on the gimbal or ipad compatibility might be useful, and others are offering that, but we try to design a pro tool: shoulder mount, steadicam, easy rig and copter compatibility, smooth remote control, etc. You wouldn't try to control a technocrane with an ipad, would you? There will be upgrades next year... if many people request joysticks, why not? But that's not the focus right now. Oh and does someone know how to survive without sleeping, since time is somehow the limiting factor right now?

I absolutely loathe accelerometer or touch based controls of video games...to such an extent I've given up playing games on my phone or ipad. lol You have to watch the surface to know if you're even touching it in the right place(s) and tilt controls never respond quickly or accurately enough. IMHO I see no option for professional gimbal control than joysticks or better still fluid controls.

You are absolutely correct there David and I couldn't feel for you more...The Great Gimbal Race of 2013 is certainly on and I'm rooting for you in a big way!

Preorder starts next week.

The pre-oder will be difficult... I'll be showing first test result in three weeks, but that will probably be only footage shot with the gimbal, not of the gimbal itself, and will anyway not present the final product, since the motors are being custom made and are not finished until late October (still the motors for the test system are pretty similar to the newly designed, but not as powerful).

The reason why can't show the gimbal before November is probably quite obvious... we don't wont to get it copied immediately. And believe me... the whole system is fundamentally different from everything out there!

Anyway... what we can show you late next week, when the pre-order starts, is the list of companies we're working with. The partners we're getting for this project are amazing!

waiting fot it too. Will pre-order if I have idea of final price.

I WANT A FLID HEAD CONTROL!!!!! I would pay $2000 more for that! Joytsick are very, very difficult to work with for framing.

Sorry I don't want to publish any details yet (that's the reason why I deleted some posts in this thread).

When we announce our partners late next week, it will be probably be quite clear in which direction we're going :)

Very excited to see footage. I'm sure you'll put it through it's proper pacing in due time, but I can't wait!

So, would you say this is something that could be mounted on the top stage of the ProLine Raven rig? What would the aprox total weight be of the gimble?

Since everything get's newly developed, even the electronics (new version of the AlexMos board, which is available right now), we can't show non-prototype footage until November. That's also when we'll show the first pictures of the rig. I hope that I can show some prototype Epic footage late September / early October (it's more a testbed), but it wont be using the final electronics and motors nor the final remote system.

Since ProLine is designing the gimbal, you can be sure that it will work (in more than one way) with the Raven! But again, my lips are sealed until November:)

What I will announce next week, when the pre-oder starts, is the list of companies which are working directly with us on this project or are supporting it otherwise.
