  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ProLine Film Gimbal co-developed by me :)

Can I get on a mailing list or something? Definitely want to look at the group buy when it happens.

My web-shop opens on Monday or Tuesday. You can pre-order the Satin remote there and also sign-up for a newsletter.

Sorry the German law is kinda difficult :) We're using Shopify as web shop system and need to adjust it according to the German law standards.

If you want to pre-oder already, you could send me a mail or pm me here on reduser.

David, any news? I just want to make sure I'm not missing an opportunity for the maximum discount. Am I correct that the 50% discount deal will be available whenever you announce that your web shop is up and running (i.e., no proactive private communication to you or your partners is required)? What are latest estimates for when the web shop goes live? How long will the window be for the max discount orders?

Sorry, I can't post any updates yet. Hopefully later this week.

What I can say is that the whole system, consisting of a brushless gimbal, the Satin remote, an iso-elastic arm and a carbon vest will be at the Berlinale film festival and most probably also at NAB for everyone to test.

Also we're developing our own power solution: power distribution, flexible cables etc.

The bad news is: we had to change many aspects of the gimbal, so the new launch date is NAB2014 where I'll be at MYT Works booth.

Good news is that the Satin Remote is nearly finished. The encoders are amazing and we should be able to ship even before NAB.

So the "system" works...you just need to work on individual aspects of the gimbal by itself.. ?

That's how you could put it :) The hardware of the Satin as well as the boards are more or less finished, but there's still quite some work to do to make it work with all the controller boards out there. I can't go into more details now, but we're making sure that the highest possible signal resolution gets transmitted.

We're also working on some pretty cool features for the gimbal. I can't share much info right now, but there will not be any off-the shelf component in the gimbal (well except of screws etc). Everything is custom designed to guarantee highest performance. Also be assured that there will not be any carbon tubes which are in my opinion neither reliable nor easy to adjust to balance the camera.

David, can you provide any updates re NAB? I've never been to the show, despite the deisre. The chief reason I would actually go this year -- if I do -- is to see this combo of components in person, see how they work, and then compare to some of the other brushless gimbal alternatives out there before deciding where I want to put my money. Can you clarify exactly how close the entire rig is to shipping in numbers and whether you will be demonstrating all components in roughly finished form at NAB? Thanks in advance.

Hi Elizabeth,

ProLine and I are still working closely together. ProLine will introduce soon a steadicam - gimbal connector, a new vest and some other cool stuff soon. I developed the gimbal and accessories for the last months. Since I didn't owned a a full workshop, it took some time to get all the necessary tools like a big 3D printers for prototyping etc. MYT Works is still working on the remote, which I will hopefully present at their NAB booth this year.

If you need the full system shipping around NAB, I would go with Swedish Chameleon's Newton system. I spoke with the creator and judging the pictures, it's the best brushless gimbal out there right now.

Movi and BeSteady 4 are the clear tops in my opinion. But I think David's Gimbal could be really good and the controller looks simply phenomenal!

there is so much that coming up this year, that, I wouldnt take this thread to a race yet.

Specially when there is no reason too.

all equipment are there to help producing your imaginary shots best way possible.

No reason for races unless you have side to side tests comparison being done properly and not with assumptions .

Its a very challenging and exiting venture, and at the very early stage of development though people think its not.

Be patient 2014 will be full of surprises.

regards

Swedish Chameleon makes great products, but to say they have the best gimbal out there is a bit speculative wouldn't you say?

Uhm no it's not. All systems, except the MoVI, are using the new Alexmos 32bit board. So while they might be different on some details (power etc), the stabilization is the same when used with the same settings.

What makes the Newton gimbal better than others is the possibility to balance the system quickly. So who knows what systems will be introduced at NAB... but until then, the Newton seems to be the best option (and it's already shipping afaik).

There are many aspects which I don't like about the Newton, such as the lack of a power distribution for the camera and the accessories. That's why I'm still working on my own gimbal. But until my system is shipping, I would not recommend any other system than the Newton since NONE of the others is efficiently usable on set.
