I've seen several product videos with some amazing lighting on here before, I am curious to know if anyone has any tips for their techniques for lighting beer, cologne, food, etc.. Just smaller products like that.

I saw a beer commercial on REDuser somewhere but I can't find it now, but the lighting made the beer almost look digital, it was amazing, but I can't remember who posted it. :glare:

Anyways if anyone has tips for lighting and wants to share their videos I'd love to learn more! Thanks everyone.

We do alot of product stuff at Syndicate. But Im not sure we are a good example as most of time I tend to go with very small setups and just shoot the product in my flame suite with a couple of small light sticks and some bits of background from the set.

By doing so I get the whole packshot shooting part out of the real shooting days and there is not a whole filmcrew and massive amount of people waiting around for a product picture that is possbly easier to make with a very small crew.

Here is an example of a Michael Kors packshot i did.

bts snapshot from my desk with a few red plexis from the set and then i shot it in passes with a light tube swinging around it.

and the actual film.

On set for the film there where atleast 100 people so the cost savings from moving the packshot out of that enviorment and having me doing it in my office in stockholm with Wednesday (agency in NewYork) on skype is quite big.

more bts and such here.

Another trick when doing product shots is to use oversized prop products.
For Chanel we used bottles that where up to x5 the size of the real thing as having it much larger makes it easier to film and also the finnish of the glas etc becomes less important. When shooting a little parfume bottle in real size a scratch or dust or small error in the print become huge and the focus pulling and everything else becomes much more crucial than when doing it all with an oversized prop version there of.

And then offcourse here we also played with projections and phantom / pyro stuff so then scale of things become even more important.

Amazing shots Bjorn! Have you done beer/soda commercials? I like alot of those commercials showing off the bottles/sweat from the bottles etc... But can't seem to find alot of them. Usually always a punchy light to them I'm trying to mimic.
