I'm working with 2 cameras with build 30.5.0; while one is working perfectly, the second one is giving problems:
- shows "sata trans fault" error
- when in playback mode says that the clips are not playable
- doesn't finish the POST, and sometimes records just few frames and stops automatically.
I tried to change the drive cable (I was using the 6ft one) with a 18inches one, but this solved just some of the problems: still doesn't finish the POST sometimes, and other times records few frames and stops automatically.
I tried also to reinstall the B30 but this didn't change anything (by the way, someone told me that reinstalling the firmware may CAUSE problems. is it true?)
the camera works perfectly only when shooting on CF.

any ideas???

thank you very much!

I was having simmilar problems with a camera with a much earlier build. We discovered there was some kind of problem with the SATA board.

Sent it back to RED and they fixed it.

Sorry, I know this isn't what you want to hear...

Dave can you remember what lens you used on the band in the airpot shot and what are your preferred lenses?

Hi Giac,

That sounds indicative of a problrm in the drive path. These are most commonly caused by the drive itself however other possibilities are the drive cable or the internal drivepath in-camera. We can bring your drive(s) in for evaluation if you like or we can bring all 3 factors in simultaneously. The choice is yours. Please let me know if I can help further.

I'll inform the rental company and see if they can change the camera and check it...

thank you once again.

Sean, just another question: have you ever heard of problems caused by reinstalling the firmware? is it something possible?
thanks

Reinstalling firmware on a RED One should not have any negative affect on the camera as long as it is done properly.

I had the same problem, I changed to built 20 and the problem dissapears. If I send everything back to Red to check (camera, 2 drives and two cables) Does this cost anything? My camera is #6352 from June 2009.
Thanks Sean
