I am currently working on a short film as a steadicam operator and I'm quite inexperienced both with the steadicam and Red One. I've got a problem powering the Redbyte Decimator and the Red One MX. The Red One is powered by the external battery plate which also has an Anton Bauer D-Tap connection. I've already used a Bartech BFD through D-Tap and I had no problems. When the Red One is on and I plug in the Decimator via D-Tap, the Red shuts down. I just don't know what the problem is. Does it make a difference that the Bartech was connected via D-Tap but also a XLR connection and not straight through the D-Tap to BFD? Right now I am flying the rig with the small Red monitor on the top and forces me a completely different way to operate. Any help would be appreciated.

I am a steadicam operator also...

Power the decimator from either the 3 or 4 pin lemo next to the sled's monitor.. Works fine.... I have actually stuck the decimator to the monitor with velcro and it works like a charm.

The Bartech should be powered via a dtap from the battery plate.. or The ideal situation is the power the RED from the sled via the 3 or 4 pin lemo... I power my arri wireless follow focus from the blue 4 pin lemo and everything works fine.

I have an Archer 2

I power my Decimator from the RED's 12v Lemo. I bought a specialty cable made by Terry West to connect the Decimator to the RED. RED is powered by the sled. I use a Flyer LE so I have to keep it light.

I went to a rental place and tried it with a voltage converter to 5 Volt and everything worked fine. So now I will use a voltage converter and I will be able to power the decimator via the sled or the RED. But I will also look a for a special cable (xlr or hirose to dc) to have another option.

Thanks to everyone for the quick replies. I really was in a bind as I had thought the decimator alone would solve my monitor problem. With a working decimator everything worked out fine and I learned my lesson. It was just unfortunate that the footage from the first day was not really usable and the DP did most of the other shots handheld or on a shoulder mount. Next time I will have to do a more thorough research and just post a question on the reduser forum before buying something.

This post is kind of old at this point but I'll throw this out anyways just incase. I also am steadicam op with an Archer 2 and I had Terry West make up a power cable for my decimator that loops out from the Bartech power port. This has worked very well for me and gives me more options as it uses one less port from the sled itself.
