  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Problem Free?

I think a few people have said this before, but you have to consider that most people post errors or ask fro help with a problem here at the moment.

However, what % of these people are experiencing real errors or just getting used to a new system... (or user error etc) and also consider that users with real errors or problems might only represent 1% or 5% of total Epics sold (although it does seem there are more Scarlet posts on problems).

It's all relative - people rarely post about good things.

I've had a few weird bugs here and there when working with the Epic, but nothing that prevented shooting.

Had quite some problems, camera went back to red twice for repair. Mostly monitoring and booting problems.

Nothing a firmware update couldn't fix and i have 2 epics.
My Epic M definately looks better than my X in the skin tone right out of the box so i always shoot grey scale and a macbeth card on the day so i can "line" both cameras up to each other.

My X has a definite Magenta tone to it

I've been wondering the same thing.
I've had quite a few problems lately, beyond bugs.
I have both an Epic and a Scarlet and both have exhibited issues over the last few months.
Now, I will to say that i have worked these cameras hard, under pretty rigorous documentary conditions - between freezing cold mountains and tropical forests.
As cameras become computers I don't expect everything to run smoothly 100% of the time, there is a lot of technology packed into that little box.

But I've had corrupt file issues with the Scarlet that's been pretty serious and has taken it out of commission. I filed a ticket of course, but we are still on location and it's impossible to send it in now.
I've also had a strange issue at start up with my Epic - a pink band running through the frame.
I usually have to restart it at least one, and it seems to help if I "rediscover hardware" before restarting.

Again, I'm on location and have to live with this issue until I have more then a two week window between locations so I can send it in.... I don't expect to have that for another two months.

That's the rub for me. I really need to send both cameras in, but only have 13 days between shoots.

Sweetness, thanks for all the responses peeps..looking forward to making the biggest purchase of me young life, this coming week hahah. Just been seeing a lot of the corrupted file pictures(distorted images) posted on here. Will really be heart broken if that happens to me hahah

Never had any serious issues with our cameras, only once had an issue in which a body had to go back to the rental house midday and I've spent a lot of time on a lot of sets with Epics...R-1's on the other hand were a much bumpier ride

Prepare for the worst, always keep an SSD with stable firmware in your case...and enjoy the images.
.

My only issue has been fighting off happy clients with a stick...great experience with both our old Scarlet and our new Epic

No problems with the camera. Minor issues with some peripheral gear that have all been east to suit. Both Red One and Epic have been uber reliable over nearly 5 years. Probably lost more footage over 5 years shooting film.

Zero issues with my Scarlet after 9 months of hard use.
Pazuzu is still going strong.
