Can you view a REC-709 (or similar) and then record log to the mini-mag on the raven? (Can this be done on the new Epics aswell?)

Sweet! Are you able to record purely pro red and no RAW?

sorry for the noob questions, I haven't been on in a while and the low cost Raven and pro red recording capabilities have brought me back!

How do you set up the camera to do this when recording Prores? Went to a Red rep's informal presentation of the Carbon 6k Weapon today, and neither of us could figure out how to view Redgamma 4 on the Touch LCD output and SDI output while simultaneously recording RedLogFilm to .r3d + Prores 2k. Can the camera actually do this with the current firmware?

*Edit: I am aware that RedLogFilm does not get recorded to .r3d files, in case that wasn't clear. :)

Phil if you shoot 4K Prores on Carbon, is there enough data rate left over to record R3Ds as well?

best

Yes. If we are talking 6K for instance you can shoot 6K 3:1 REDCODE RAW or 6K 4:1 w/ ProRes 422 HQ 4K at 24fps. You typically lose a tick of REDCODE RAW Compression Ratio, but it depends on frame rates and all that.

Yes this is currently possible. You need to configure it under: Menu>Settings>Look>Video

There you can assign Look A and Look B as well as assigning a 3D LUT if you so desire.

How does Phil not get paid by red yet! ;)

Phil "The Oracle" Holland. I bet that's who Jarred calls when he's lost... ;-)

Cheers - #19

Thus far the main names that have been slung my way are:

- Dragon Whisperer
- Weapon Whisperer

It's weird walking into a rental house and being greeted that way, but carrying a staff (monopod w/ camera on top) with a cloak likely doesn't help :)

Seriously though, this particular feature is really new to the RED ecosystem. It's totally understandable that people don't fully understand it's capabilities just yet until it becomes the norm.

Good point, but I bet he is well-rewarded by the jobs he gets from people seeing his expertise here on REDuser.

I'd hire him in a second... but he'd hafta work for peanuts. '-)

What color profile is the 2K ProRes file? REC 709? Since it's not a .r3d raw I assume color is baked in, or is their a flat or log profile?

My understanding is you can give it whatever profile you like - either in the form of a LUT, a curve, or any of the standard in camera options currently avail (RedLogFilm, etc)

Another q, if I scale down the sensor to 2K does the image of the pro res file also compress down to that 2k reduced frame?

You get the field of view of the resolution you choose
