  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PRO IO MINI - WHO WANTS IT - VOTE HERE !

I think it would be nice if the ProRes module could be configured for either ProRes or DNxHD.

For sure...
The Meizler Module is awesome... but I doupt 90% of us will use all of its features.. hence why these two products will fill that 90% void.... and still keep our cameras small and simple and powerful (the reason we bought them in the first place.

The Meizler is great, but I have most of the stuff in little boxes, and those I can use with other cameras as well, so the Meizler doesn't make sense to me. But a Pro IO Mini does make total sense!

It should be called the "Toia box" Thank God Red listens to its customers the only bummer is I need this module a year ago.
I hope this new module will record to standard media as other manufactures have found off the shelf SSD easily capable of recording video formatts. But at the moment I would be happy if it recorded to clay tablets. I want my Toia box:cryin:

Toia ... Mark Toia ... calling Mark Toia to the microphone .... (he is probably busy, out shooting in the wild somewhere) :)

pretty sure it will record to red mini mags, look at the meizler module, the technique is there, so now the will make it in a separate module

I would not be surprised if there was other media that red was going to use ;)

Mark,

Despite its title, this thread seems to have evolved into a proxy module only thread. Perhaps you can start a new one. Nothing wrong with wanting such a module of course (and there are hints that one is on its way), but the two are very different things. The Pro Mini I/O is a great idea and needs a request thread of its own.

+1 for the mini I/O
AND + the "+1 adapter", which was supposed to replace the module adapter.

Also +1 for the mini-proxy if its that small.

Together both modules would give one could ask for, except many I/Os at the same time - then the high brother steps into place.

Yes, that's rather worrying. One would have expected some words of encouragement/discouragement by now. Not sure if Red are barely tolerating and/or ignoring this request as it doesn't fit their plans, or if Mark has anticipated something they are already planning and they want to keep quiet for now. While there are already hints at a proxy module being realized in some form in some of the Meizler Module posts, there are no responses from Red w.r.t. Mark's simple-but-brilliant Pro Mini I/O idea.

My question to Epic or Scarlet operators is: how many of you leave the current "dumb" module adapter attached to the back of your camera? I bet very few, and only then when you're anticipating adding a quick mount module later during the shoot. This then makes the whole concept of Red's nifty quick mount modules moot. You have to screw on the adapter first then fit the quick mount module. Hardly quick anymore. If you had a Pro Mini I/O, you'd WANT it attached all the time for the pro XLR audio inputs and the extra EVF/LCD output, especially since it would be so small and add so little to the rig. Then the modular design really would live up to its quick mount potential. Only when you wanted/needed a really light-weight rig would you ever bother to take off the Pro Mini I/O. It's the perfect compliment to the Epic/Scarlet design for run-and-gun IMHO.

So many new cameras on the market, competition's up and running. Initial F65 tests look stunning. Aaton is on the verge of releasing something big. And it keeps getting better. It was Red the ushered in this new age. I think the mini module is must to stay in the race (or ahead of it). Other manufacturers are meeting and in some cases exceeding Epic in various aspects and it's time Red address the most glaring weaknesses of the system. They took care of the Bomb. The OLED is nice. Camera is quite stable these days. The 11" monitor is truly kick ass. Battery Module plus I/O module for many of us is a bust, as it is Al-ex...a size but not as sleek. My Batt module has been back in the box for ages. Mini module would retain its key advantages in size. As is, I still use V mount batts as I find the batt module system just not as simple and long lasting as A/B or V mount. And the housing creates unnecessary bulk per watt/hr compared to the old system. V mount or A/B mount with a mini I/O would seriously kick ass. Let's hope and pray.

Yes, Im in the wild again...

Yes, Jarreds little hints give us a slimmer of hope from time to time... but really - the RED silence on this thread is very disappointing. How many +1's does it take for a company like RED to ignore such a well needed accessory. (s)

RED EPIC OWNER OPERATORS / USERS that like to keep there kits small and efficient are the real spenders in this RED world. Big horse power modules like the MM are great for the small amount of guys that want them... and the MM is awesome !! But the EPIC masses want to keep there cameras small and powerful (this is originally why we bought EPICS)
So a small PRORES or DNXHD module (hopefully with a couple of audio ports on the other side of it and Xtra EVF port) will sell like absolute hot cakes... I'm unsure why the silence.

and it being called a TOIA MODULE has a ring to it. :) kidding.... But I'd rather it get called the YAWMIT ( You - asked - we - made - it )

IMO the single weakest link to the Epic as a production camera is the lack of a touch screen and EVF functionality at the same time......really? This mini module would alleviate this issue and "fix" the other issue we all have on occasion, quick turnaround edits.
