  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

pro i/o module question

It is the main part I am interested in it. I have the Action Products XLR solution which has moved the sound inputs to the back of the camera and provides professional level inputs and I could probably have lived without the pro i/o module but for this single fact - have to have the touchscreen and evf working simultaneously. It sure is an expensive solution to that particular problem!

RED has been unusually quiet about the I/O module, which could be due to a number of things. My guess is that the feature-set hasn't been finalized yet and that is why we haven't heard anything yet.

Its true. They have gone very quiet about it. Maybe they are rethinking its specifications. I always thought for example that a true pro i/o module would have actual physical retractable knobs for controlling volume - just like the Sound Devices stuff. Now that would be irresistible.

I've been harping on this for three years, no response. If it's pro I/O, it should have decent pots (volume knobs) and meters. My EX-1 has these. WTF? For this reason, I'll continue to use my Sound Devices mixer.

However, like the first post in this thread, simultaneous touch screen and EVF would be great. I wonder if there could be an I/O lite that just provides that option. After all, the present output isn't built into the camera body either; it's on the SSD module.

Wild idea. How about an SSD module that goes on the other side and provides second output and dual media storage?

The truth is most of us will buy it on ly for the second port, which is a lot of money for only that.

So I hope we could use like two red monitors and a evf. I would love to get rid of external monitor power and monitoring cables. Like the 5" to display edge / color, and the forthcoming 9" to actually see the image.
And agreed, at least 2 knobs would be handfull...

But actually, if the I/O module was a complete I/O, it would have wireless HD in it (it would be awesome)

Because to be fair to third party like Actionproducts, the only thing missing in their elektra is the second Red Display port. With this in the elektra, I would pass on the I/O (as it is the last time we heard and saw about it).

Actually Bérenger - as far as I remember the Pro I/O module I saw at NAB did have antennas on it as well as full size XLRs and multiple BNCs. It looked a fair bit larger than the one we've previously seen in renders. So by the time we add both the module adapter, the Quad battery module and the Pro I/O and Redmote it's going to be a longer camera than the R1. Maybe slightly smaller than an R1 with a battery/drive cradle on the back. However - that is obviously pure speculation :-)

My hope is that RED has decided to integrate the h264 wireless proxy module into the Pro I/O module all-together. That would be great news and certainly worth the wait.

Well, I should have been to NAB ! I didn't saw that antenna I/O unit but if it do is like that, it is well worth the money ! Especially if it can share the signal on multiple devices, and if it has a external HD receiver.

Are there any 3rd party solutions for a module to monitor Bomb EVF and RED touch screen LCD on the EPIC at the same time? Even if the Pro i/o Module was currently available, $3K (or $3700) seems steep when that's the only feature I'm looking for.

As far as I'm concerned it was a horrible mistake not to have the Pro I/O ready to ship with the Epic-X.
And to be so silent for so long on availability is just ridiculous - let us know what is happening!

I would actually rather buy a new SSD module with dual outputs, and a Dtap.
Do not want the camera to get longer than quad pack and mote... but I would not mind it to be slightly wider.

Proxy would make it worthwhile. Blows to have two monitoring options... but not. Easily the biggest drawback to the kit right now.

Yeah, it's starting to look like a centipede.

If the Pro i/o doubled as a module adapter that would save some space. A V-mount battery attachment on there would be nice too. And +1 on audio gain knobs. And we'll be able to send one input to two tracks at different gain levels, right? Just the standard stuff that has been on cameras FOREVER would be nice. But RED seems to be at war with audio. Well, that's eventually going annoy a lot of the Scarlet guys.

If you could put the touchscreen on the the 1/4" 20's on the module attached to the camera it would be a better design. Currently the stock top vent prevents that because it overhangs the rear of the EPIC.

Question: when we use the pro I/O module feeding it with XLR sound our sound guy complains about the delay in the audio out signal. I do not know much about audio work but he thinks its not usable so he wanted to jam the tc and work with external audio.. his sound recorder device does not have audio out it in such way so he can record onto that and then also feed it to the camera. So question is the delay to the head phones anything adjustable or is it nothing we can do anything about?
