So price of the RAVEN has increased by 1000$/€. Well you can still argue that for 11000$ (base package) you won’t find anything better. But for a camera that serves as an “inexpensive” entry point into cinema cameras I feel like that 1000 bucks can have an impact. People with tight budget might lean towards another camera. That doesn’t mean that they won’t come back later if they have the financial capacities. But it will decrease the number of potential buyers who look for an entry camera and might eventually stay with RED cameras in the future. Besides the price gap to the SCARLET-W seems too small now. What’s the point of having two cameras that are in the same price region? (which doesn’t mean that the price of the SCARLET-W needs to be increased).

5K 16/9 scarlet-w is a bargain for $10,000
4K 16/9 raven is overpriced for $7,000 for Fall delivery

something we don't know is going on at RED. maybe they are just taking advatge of the URSA 4.6K mini current issues.

at least this gives a bit of breath to Epic-Scarlet owners.

The Raven is too expensive for its features and cannot compete to another brand which comes up right now.

You should have preordered Raven before the price increase instead of complaining.

The price increase of Raven has been well known for a few months and advertised by Jarred, as well as on RED.com.

RED set forth on the general manufacturing and pricing scheme of Raven and Scarlet-W, even with Raven's price "adjustment" long before URSA 4.6K hit the market.

I do not complain. The Raven was expensive even before.

If the allocation thread is any indication, RED seems to have plenty Raven customers already so until production ramps up they don't need more people at the back of the line. Better for them to upsell those they can to the Scarlet-W for only $3k more instead of $4k, like it or not people are easily manipulated by price anchors. They can always lower the price later if they start catching up to the line. Not that it's really the brain making the profits here it's the media and accessories. It's one thing to spend $5k on a $30-60k camera, but it's hard to use Raven cheaply. I saw that it said on the DSMC2 V-Lock Battery Module page that you could use it directly, but then you can't use a cheaper HDMI/SDI monitor + Fool Control to control the camera so you need a $1500+ DMSC2 monitor. I've got a friend with a DJI Phantom, 4K recording in camera and 720p preview is great so I can't think of a good (non-business) reason why you couldn't get live view in Fool Control for basic framing. Maybe I'm being unrealistic but $2-3k in acceessories seem reasonable for a $6k camera, not a $4k package that desperately needs at least another $850+ minimag + $200 reader so you can swap and offload. I guess the short version is that I really like the footage but even their lowest cost option still is still not all that cheap. At least for someone who isn't primarily looking to shoot commercially...

Very curious why you think Raven is overpriced given it's specs...

This makes no sense. Price change was announced in February. Ursa mini started shipping in mid-late March.

For some it is "too expensive" for some it's a steal/deal of a life time. Curious as to why your on the Raven thread if you feel it's too expensive, there's other cameras that may suit you better.

The cameras don't just drop in price as soon as we release an updated version.. we price our cameras more honestly than that.

The price goes down when they are cheaper for us to make. The price goes up when they are more expensive for us to make.

For example, Weapon MG went down in price because we lowered our costs . Raven on the other hand will almost most definitely go up in price ( for new orders ) because it is costing us more to make.

For whoever asked why the price went up.

I never found that convincing to begin with. How is it that the manufacturing cost went up, which obviously only affects the RAVEN production, after they received a lot of preorders? Without any transparent explanation it looks a lot like demand-based pricing. Which is fine. Every company does it but please don’t be so naive and believe every unconvincing explanation because someone told you to believe it.

But my question is: Isn’t it a missed opportunity to establish a price that can appeal to broader market? The attention gained by an affordable product is worth more than 1000$ on each unit. That’s at least my perspective.

I don't really care what you find convincing. Someone asked if there was an explanation from Jarred, the president of Red and I provided his words. Do I care if why the price went up, No. Price didn't effect anyone with a preorder before NAB. If the price puts the camera out of reach for you, it's okay, there are other cameras in the world.

well it did turn into a 4.5k camera package with a case instead of 4K with no case @@?

Reduser has been filled with complaints the past week or so. I had to react lol. Can't please everybody all of the time. I even remember some people saying "It's only 4.5k now cause of the ursa mini" Like how does that even make sense, a simple "thank you" would suffice.

yep. people should be doing back flips to get a brand new red cam in a box for less than 10K.. its bananas

Edit: oh yah forgot to mention the part where they let you get a S-W for only 10 grand in place of the raven..
