  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

So I think im getting something wrong but not quite sure where exactly....

First off, ive literally just purchased the philm luts and already WOW! Great to quickly change the look of your footage for the ipp2 workflow....

so before today i would usually use redlogfilm along with some older luts i had. Now ive changed to ipp2 im stuck as to why im seeing a major difference between cine x pro and premiere. my edit route is the same as before except i am now changing in the settings in my premiere master source settings to REDWideGamutRGB and Log3G10

the colours just seem to be way off in premiere.... i am following Phils notes ive found in a previous thread for when using the luts in premiere

RED IPP2 in Adobe Premiere Pro CC
- Go to the clip's "Master" RED Source Settings under Effect Controls
- select REDWideGamutRGB as your Color Space
- select Log3G10 as your Gamma Curve
- add a Lumetri Color effect (found in Effects)
- In the Lumetri Color menu under Basic Correction load the desired 3D Lut Transform

please see screen shots below...

clearly a major difference, so im guessing there is something i am missing? any help appreciated - only thing im thinking is maybe there is an output lut or something i need to add to the end but not sure which one is needed and where in premiere i place this?

also for anyone who is using ipp2 and not bought the lut package, really recommend it if your editing/grading yourself

base luts - just a few examples with absolutely no other settings.... some are more extreme than others but even as a start point, really great for various looks

Soon, and I'm under NDA so I can't say fully, Adobe Premiere Pro CC will have fully IPP2 support and implementation, which means that the Creative Cubes (like mine) will be used where they should in the SDK.

With your current workflow you need to add the IPP2 Output Transform LUT (available at RED.com) at the end of the chain.

However, I would recommend personally waiting until full IPP2 support as the LUT interpolation is better, but you can likely get away with many of my less complex LUTs with the workflow above.

Really glad you like philmColor. i've put an unhealthy amount of effort into this project :)

Hi Phil thanks for your reply, will be good to see premiere pro impliementing it fully. as for the output transform lut, about half an hour ago i downloaded them and added an adjustment layer over the top of my file with the output file loaded into the lumetri lut box. now when i flick between red cine x and premiere they do look different (i guess its due to the contrast settings from the output luts) . however when i render the files in premiere with the output lut, i get flicker....

should i be loading the output lut differently? sorry for the questions

Sadly that workflow isn't quite what we're looking for. Output transforms still in the input settings!

Sigh...

cheers

Say what you want about Google, but when their CEO discovered that somebody put the cheese in the wrong place, he made it their "top priority" to get it fixed!

It would be great to see the major NLE vendors take a similar stance on where, exactly, RED's output transforms belong in the image processing pipeline. Cheez burger: can I haz?

:)

NLEs are colliding with Colour Correctors but they both have very different colour management systems and nothing gets it quite right at the moment.

NLEs come from mass market so it's all about simplicity and Colour Correction from the other end.

No one that i'm aware of has it quite right... yet...

Now in Reds SDK i don't know if it's possible to separate the debayer and the output settings - it could that that is all Red offer to 3rd parties...

cheers
Paul
