I love my switch from FCP7 to PPro but I am missing a few things...

I may be missing something but I really want the following:

1 - Support for offline editing and being able to "Reconnect" media as in FCP7.
2 - I want to be able to export an XML or EDL of a specific sequence NOT the entire project.
3 - Round-tripping with Davinci Resolve would be amazing.

i would like to know the shortcut key for unlinking audio/video if there is one?

You can submit feature requests and bug reports here.

More on feedback for Premiere Pro here.

You can roundtrip to Resolve.

Just export a FCP7 XML and bring it into Resolve. And export from Resolve with the FCP roundtrip options, but open the XML in Premiere instead.

Is there going to be a ADOBE PREMIER GURU RED EXPERT at NAB... Using a MAC laptop as well as a tower...
I want to see if a hotel room laptop work flow is possible using Premier.. without being smashed by the RENDER line.

Im very interested....

Also a visit to BLACK MAGIC to see there new thunderbolt boxes working... through multiple screens and devices.

My two NAB priorities..

When I export an EDL all it does is the sequence. Do you have the timeline frame selected when you do export the edl?

Not sure what you mean with number 2. You can reconnect media of sorts by "replace footage" right click the clip in the bin and select "replace footage."

Steve took care of the resolve roundtrip.

Are you saying you can make all the color changes in Resolve using R3Ds, and then export that out as XML and keep using the original R3Ds?

BTW - is that with 4K? I understand that Resolve, even in the free version, can read 4K R3D, but will out output the XML for 4K R3Ds.

RECONNECTING MEDIA:

.....i don't believe with PPro it is as EASY as FCP...unless they did some sort of an update recently. But i LOVE how FCP does relinking with very little effort and PPro is a hassle to relink media that is on different drives or drives with different names (than the original project)---Basically it does not find media as easily as FCP.....that's my biggest gripe at moment.

And do we finally have better options for 10bit viewing OUT of premier via an I/O box like Matrox or Blackmagic ?? editing in 8bit is old hat. PLEASE give us 10bit monitoring via I/O Boxes....

Relinking is pretty easy
Right click on the bin....not the file......point it to one file and it automatically relinks the rest....if you right click on the file.....then you have to do each one seperately.....not sure how much easier it can get.......
You just have to remember to relink on the bin not the file.....of course this is per renamed drive....so if you managed to rename 5 drives you would have to do this 5 times

As far as 10 bit output......matrox aja and black magic have all had 10 bit out cards and boxes for quite some time.....like years .....I could name the models but it would be probably close to a dozen.....not to mention 10 bit quadro output for a few years as well....

Have you guys actually used premiere?

Mike....as to the 10 bit output--NO GO as of 4 months ago.....been using Matrox for 3 years now and last on FCP and with 10 bit out...HOWEVER 10 bit out has to be enabled by PPro....in fact i had called Matrox some months ago to ask them about this and nobody could give me a clear answer and feeling was is that it was still 8 bit out to the Matrox I/O....even though it is touted as a 10bit out box and CAN handle 10 bit, but Premier had not enabled anything but 8bit out....so to this day there is no clearcut answer. Lots of speculation though....

As to relinking.....i have to take credit for not working it enough.....i'd always had the window come up and tell me my files needed to be linked....and could not for the life of me get anywhere with it other than re-linking each one and stumbling across a way to global re-link later, but it sure was not an easy process otherwise you would not have so many people asking about it...Just not nearly as intuitive as FCP that is.....In fact there is a LOT Premier does that is amazing, and i seem to discover something new every sesson...but some things are not as easy when coming from FCP Now you has an expert user have me hands tied......are you the same Mike Harrington i watch on varies Creative Cow podcasts? if so.....brilliant. Now i make my request of a simple RELINKING video.....

your right on the speculation....
I took matrox to task on there 10 bit output to fusion...which I believe is actually 8.... matrox fault not fusion

Ppro has been 10 bit capable for some time on adobes end.... it is sketchy with the card makers
All of them advertise 10 bit output but the software and the hardware have to agree then they blame each other

Not the same mike harrington.....but there is an easy cineform related relink video I'll see if I can find....also adresse the online offline workflow

Sorry, can't find a video at present it should be on cineforms site....but I am on a mobile device....

You are right about ppro not being as intuitive.....just the other day I saw a training video on premiere were the instructer went through manually relinking every file......most of us who know were either told or had a happy accident

I am just jaded as there was always this perception that you had to use final cut to do professional video......I had a BBC producer with no red experience at all laugh at me when she found out I used ppro.......and then proceeded to tell me that red video is only editable in final cut.....this was 6 months ago....

any way the relinking is pretty easy.....just organize into bins...then right click the bin and you can swap media, relink ect ect

No, when coming back out of Resolve, you'll have to render into either a DPX and an OpenEXR file (for highest quality footage - you could render out ProRes 442 if you wanted).

Resolve Lite can read and understand all RED footage up to 5k. The limiting option only appear when you're ready to export and it'll max out at 1080p

The fun thing about Resolve Lite is that you CAN finish your project at 4K. Take your project file to a colorist that has the paid full version and render out. Resolve is basically free if you are a nice person with connections.

Thanks everyone!
Yeah I was used to right clicking the sequence in FCP to relink footage. I will give the bin relinking a try.

When I export an xml it has been opening in Resolve completely wrong and so I opened it in FCP7 and it had created the entire project including all sequences and bins....

I would like a DRAG AND REPLACE , like in After Effects. Say I have a clip I used 2 times in an edit, but I need them color graded completely different: I would like to be able to duplicate the source, make my color change, then select the OTHER c cut of the clip, and Drag and Replace just like in AE. Currently, I am having to copy those portions of my edit into AE , dup the source, drag and replace, then paste all of that back into Premiere. Yikes.

Premiere has a REPLACE CLIP but it doesnt seem to work as well as AEs absolute replace.

Thanks Mike, my sentiments EXACTLY! Premiere is EASY to use, and does so much more than FCP ever dreamed... sometimes folks have to be willing to play with it a bit, or take training classes (how bout Lynda.com?) to learn a few new things...

you do have drag and replace....hold alt and drag new clip over old one...will inherit all the effects....
not sure if this solves your problem....but you do have drag and replace....and it's the same hotkey as after effects
