Aloha. Starting a new thread for this one to get a status update on where this is with the Adobe crew.

Currently in Premiere Pro CC (and CS6) 5K HD (4800x2700) is not supported for whatever reason.

With the 4K UHD standard set I believe it is pivotal to have this addressed and fixed as it's going be something we all utilize now and in the future.

Any thoughts on the progress of getting this implemented or where it's at in terms of being deployed would be appreciated.

Thanks.

yep, the PC version won't play 4800 * 2700 files, not even in an HD sequence with 'scale to frame size'.

To create an EDL for Resolve I have to go through a complex loop of Red Cine, export, Premiere, export EDL. It's a disaster. Although if RedCine exported an EDL that could actually be used on a PC that might be a good start.

On that front I just export an XML and Premiere imports it nicely.

However, this 4800x2700 thing needs to be handled. It's going to be one of a few ways people are going to be capturing broadcast standard material. Right now it's a wall for people on a certain side of the fence.

according to adobe this is a red issue....
they said it would be fixed in CC as red was giving them the latest support

So it looks like this was an issue with the RED support we had at the time. Red has since fixed the issue and CC has the latest Red support and should have this issue addressed.

Cheers

Dave

I agree though...this 5kHD issues have gone on much too long.....needs to be addressed

Thanks to those that found this in CC, probably saved my ass....I am shooting a project thursday and had assumed 5kHD was working in CC.....guess I'll have to plan to shoot 5kFF and crop or just go down to 4kHD

Hi Phil,

Are you talking about specific clips from the Red Camera or something else? You can setup sequences at any size.

Cheers

Dave

No you can't

Take a 4800*2700 R3D file and import it into a Premiere project. Choose 'create sequence from clip'. Try to play the clip. It won't play, just freezes while the timeline indicator moves. When you stop it, the frame jumps to where the timeline indicator is.

Try importing a 4800*2700 clip into an HD timeline using 'scale to frame size'. The same behaviour occurs.

Ok I will get someone to look at this. Do you have a small sample clip I can download now?

Hi Phil,

I can play that clip in Premiere Pro CC (7.0.1) at 1/4 res on a macbook pro retina with 0 dropped frames.

What are you seeing/expecting?

Okay. Now I'm severely scratching my head here. Literally two days ago this didn't work. Now I have it working, playing back, and able to import clips into a project/timeline/sequence just fine.

Experimenting now.

Just imported 140 clips. It's..... working somehow. Even clips with audio.

Did you guys roll out an update last night? This literally didn't work not long ago. I don't do drugs!

It looks like there was an update to Premiere, but I had to manually force the update for some reason.

Good on Adobe! Very cool, perhaps we should pre-emptively change the title now to: "Dragon 6K HD support?" Lol ;)

have you tried it on a pc?

I'm on PC and check this out:

It's working on my side and on a laptop as well.

They were sneaky and this is somehow working, don't know what voodoo transpired, but it's doing good things.

High fives Adobe and David.

Hey everyone, I have the same problem and also using the latest CC version of Premiere. 5KHD will playback fine on my mackbook pro and Dell workstation, but when a red rocket is enabled, it will not play 5KHD files in the timeline. This has been broken ever since 5KHD came out. I was hoping this would be resolved with CC but apparently not yet. It would be so helpful to have this corrected... and to also have this support for the upcoming 6KHD with Dragon while utilizing the old and new red rockets. Thanks.

What resolution are you using with your rocket? What version number does ppro show in the about box?

Cheers

I am running Premiere CC version 7.0.1 (105). I had the same problem in CS6 and know at least a half-dozen other people are experiencing this also ever since Red released the 5KHD format. I have also run every possible firmware from Epic and all problems are consistent- when the rocket it enabled in 5KHD there is no playback of footage.
