Hey guys,

I like everyone is eyeing out the raven , Im shooting on the SONY FS700 and looking to upgrade to the Raven , why ? A. I dont lose any frame rate from the FS700 and B. It shoots RAW . Kinda simple ..... My biggest issue is the modular path , Im not sure whats best for me and my style of shooting ? I shoot heaps of fashion stuff as well as plenty surf/sport content , mostly nowhere near a power source ! Im thinking going with the RedVolt XL configuration and just purchase a few more units ? My issue is how long does a XL RedVolt last ? and will I be able to rig it onto the Ronin with that modular pack ?

Redvolt XL gives you about 90 minutes. If you go with vlock batteries, a 95wh one gives you the same duration, it's cheaper, but bulkier and heavier.

With ronin you can power the camera directly form ronin's battery using the power distributor. It's a lighter setup, gives you still 90 minutes (powering both red and gimbal) but batteries are chaper than redvolt and vlock and most important (for me) is that you can fully charge a battery in an hour, while vlock and redvolt takes about 2.

Makes perfect sense but in all fairness the more compact and light the rig the better ! Off topic with the DJI battery distributer you could in theory use DJI Phantom 3 batteries ( practically the same as RONIN ) ( if you prepared to deal with the cable and battery storage ) the same way via Red Power cable ??????

What you are saying doesn't add up. Someone else may chime in and say I'm wrong but you cant power the Raven from the Ronin battery. Also I am pretty sure the Redvolt only works on DSMC and the Raven is DSMC2. The ronin battery is 3400 mAh. The Raven draws 3300 mAh and the ronin draws 600 mAh. The Redvolt XL is 6150 mAh. You may be able to power the Ronin from the Red brick with the correct DSMC2 expander but not the other way around. The red brick is 10400 mAh.

Epic and Weapon can now be powered by the new ronin batteries. via the power distributor.

I don't know if phanom's intelligent batteries can be attached to the battery distributor. Voltage is the same as Ronin's, but maybe pinout or connector are different. I wouldn't risk.

DJI's Red power cable is a simple DTAP to 6 pin Lemo, you can find better ones (maybe braided) or cheaper.

I'm selling new in mint condition: XL Module, Quad Charger and Redvolt XL 2-pack.

All brand new and came with my Weapon package, but I'm running off Anton Bauers, so I don't need this package.

XL Module - $1,000
Quad Charger - $500
Redvolt 2-pack - $600

Savings of over $500 when you include tax.

PM if interested.

Should post this in the marketplace, but PM sent regardless :)

I wish I could find the post, but I saw someone put a small Redvolt in a Redvolt XL module.
Anyone else see that post??

Im not sure where I saw it, but a vaguely remember reading that the XL module would take one small redvolt. Not sure how useful it will be as it will only power the camera for around 35 minutes though. Hopefully there will be some more solutions for hot swapping aside from the redvolt expander and the movcam one.

35 minutes? More like 20 on a good day.

Raven power options

Raven power options

So on red store I see several power options but then I see very different options in non red NAB review posts.
can someone provide Raven / weapon power overview?!! So if I buy the $4k expander I can use classic red volts? But if I use clock adapter I can now use low profile Redvolt V with 25% more battery life? Are they even available? What charger will they use? And can't clock come with power in adapter? Seems like some assumptions are being made that may not be logical or that you don't want lightest weight smallest general use package (which is exackty what I want) :(
and not to ask an annoying question - but when are these available? Unlike major studios I am not interested in $1k 'throw away' choices so I can use the camera and then get what I really want 6 months later.

Mike, not really sure what you're asking here. Maybe be more clear with your questions.

There is already tons on information about power options on this forum already. The v-lock I/O expander (which I'm not even positive that's what you're talking about) will work with the new Red low profile batteries (which will work with most third party chargers), but they won't be out for a while. You do have the option to use virtually any third party v-lock battery, though, so it's not a bad option.
