  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

There has been a lot of talk about how to power accessories without a D-Tap or any other sort of Power Out option on the QUAD BATTERY MODULE.

I don't know if this is even possible BUT, how about making a simple Power Out Module that just pops into one of the REDVolt slots in the QUAD MODULE?

Thoughts? RED?

... or how about just putting some power outs directly onto the module.
would make it kind of extra nifty. and actually usable too :-)

Ahhhhhh....yes!

+1

Perhaps they will make an updated version sometime.

Power outs on the module adapter might be a solution. It seems less-complicated than re-designing the module itself.

How about somebody just make a simple plate for a single REDvolt with a d-tap that goes on various folks' power plates like VF, ET etc. Not being able to power accessories when running the camera from the side handle is an issue that could be really streamlined. I know this thread is about the Quad Batt module. But damn, this should be an easy one for someone to make I would think.

Agreed. The Dual Battery module sounds nice, but I'd really be happy with the ability to mount a singe Redvolt on the back of the camera.

Those redvolt XLs look pretty sweet guys! if each one lasted for twice the amount of time as the regular redvolts (or hopefully longer) then having two in there at once would be pretty sweet. I might just keep my quad module after all, at least until I see the specs of the XLs. Maybe if the community had more information on them and how long they can theoretically last it would help solve this issue, minus the Dtap issue.

I still don't understand the draw to having four 30wh redvolts in a module as opposed to a 120wh, 160wh etc AB or V-Mount battery on the back of the camera. I really don't get it.

This is not meant to offend anyone, but I am sincerely interested to hear why people think this is a more convenient option? No D-Tap, you're tied to proprietary batteries, you need a 'module adapter' to fit the module on the back of the camera... seems like a pain.

If making a volt (small) power out module in other words something in the shape of a battery with like 2 D-tap female and a 4 pin XLR female.. then that would be super since then the this out module is possible to move around onto different bat modules and also different side of the quad module etc. Having a separate power out module that makes the camera even bigger is not rely wanted. So that and or if somebody can modify the module adaptors so that they carry D- tap.

Could Red reply to this and at least say it's not possible so we do not get our minds going...

with no Dtap I can't use it in my market. I carry 8 chargers and 12 volts. Not exactly a small footprint. Great for run and gun but not for cine. I hope RED will address this AKS power issue.

Red will kill me for asking but:
Is there any body out there that knows the "pin out" for the red volts?
Is it a 12volt feed coming of the battery or does it has to be converted into 12 / 15v I guess there has to be some electronics in between the dtap and the bat or?

If somebody could do a single volt battery module with D-tap. I think that person would make lot of money. We are heading down to south africa on the 4th of march doing steady cam work. Then having to rent bricks to run follow focus and onboard monitor etc when we got both a side handle and quad module sucks. I wish so bad for a solution to this... raging our office to find the volt meter as we speak, hope measuring the volts does not include some explosion hazzards :)

I wonder if they don't want to redesign the battery module to add this, if they could make a new module adapter that has the dtap built into it.
