  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

POSTED: EPIC Firmware v1.6.44 (Release) and v1.7.9 (BETA)

Maybe not the most 'Pro' feature ever, but I'm jumping up and down that I can use the HDMI now :)

Only gripe so far is that i data from my Red 50-150 doesn't read out correctly on the Redmote, although its there and correct on the monitoring path. No zoom info, and focus range takes no account of dof, just reports a raw value I think

Also do I spot a direct focus value entry field under the Aperture menu? So once I'm blessed with my Canon mount I might be able to directly enter distances? Nice :D

Huge issue here unless I'm missing something, I chose to have a clean feed on my LCD (And since I'm waiting for my backordered REDmote and Sidehandle I have no other control device) The menu no longer appears on the LCD and it won't allow me to get back into the menu system. Sigh.

Hmm, thought I spied that as the 'get out of jail' in the ops guide. Unless someone else has a solution I'd just re-do your firmware 'force upgrade', as it'll default your settings.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!! 720p !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot wait to go to work tomorrow to test this out on my CAMWAVE!!!

I LOVE YOU RED!

HDMI out works perfectly! Was just outputting a gorgeous 1080P picture to my 58" home TV.

Fantastic new build 1.7.9a! Loving the selectable HDMI out (choose 720p or 1080p). RedBrick display now works, shows percentage remaining.

Can't wait to get my Canon mount and try autofocus.

Great work Red Team!!

Playback comes in build 2.0 to be release in November.

JUST IN TIME!!!!!! LEGENDS!!! LEGENDS!!!! all of you at RED..!!! I love you all!

Thats just mega news for me! seriously! I'm so so happy about this.

This is the best news from RED in Months !!! it will make my camera perfect! I don't care what else comes from you guys in the near future, you wont get a pep out of me wanting anything else in the way of firmware extras. The camera will be just perfect once we get this playback installed.

Thanks Jarred! Thanks RED TEAM! Just awesome news!

If you guys new the job I'm working in in November, you'd understand! It's massive! and in camera playback will save me days of farting around dragging playback units and extra people around the planet!

Guys, Once again! AWESOME!!!!! and thanks!!!

I'm VERY curious how auto-focus with the Canon will work. Does it allow you to select a "head" and then it stays locked to that head as long as it is in the shot? Or is it just lock focus to whatever it thinks is interesting?

And when is a real controller for the Canon mount going to be released?

Stephen

THIS BUILD IS BIGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

Lots of fixes, nice new things in 1.7.9. Just a few:

Brick battery percentage - Yes!
New edge focus - just played with this a little bit, but it seems like it could be the ticket for impossible focus situations. Not something you want to leave on all the time because it looks like a Photoshop filter. Seems like it will deliver bomb proof focus enhancement though. Cool.
Regular focus enhancement is enhanced.
Touch screen seems easier - time will tell for sure.
More useful audio controls.
More logical layout for many menu items.
Lots of other stuff.
HDMI now supported!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Playback coming soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Red Team - beautiful.

I tried it out the Epic firware build 1.7.9a for Canon lenses last night with ta 24-70 zoom.
While extremely accurate, it's also slow at hunting.
I don't think any focus pullers will be out of a job any time soon.

Bigger news for Canon mount users, is that is that the focus assist mode (with "sharpened" edges) and the "edge" mode that shows edges clearly, everything else appearing black, is awesome for seeing focus even on the 5 inch monitor.
Great for short-throw stils lenses, and operators pulling thier own focus.
I think magnify mode will be used a lot less in the future.
I can easily see where focus is, perfectly, without bothering with "magnify".

I also love how touching on the histogram on the LCD brings up all the monitoring options so easily.

CUrves menu in look is customizable- will have to test if the RMD from RCX works when loaded in to camera now... I was hoping for a graphic representation of the curves like we see in RCX. Do you guys plan on putting this functionality in? I think Deanan said yes this was in the plans. Ideally all the parameters from RCX RMD files would load into the Epic and affect the picture output to monitor.

2 biggest answers to the two biggest questions :
