  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Post Your Scarlet-X Rig

First post, I figured I'd share the previous revision of my rig.

A few changes have since been made, mostly in that I've added the side ribs and an OLED EVF, and eventually a PIX 240 since the majority of what I'm doing is 1080p bound.

Isaac can I get a breakdown of your tripod please.
Its the last piece of the puzzle for this round and I cant seem to decide on one.

That's actually not my Tripod, but from a rental house. Mine came in 2 days after taking that photo.

Same thing basically, I use a Sachtler 18 II with a floor spreader, and a bolt on QD plate.

thanks, how do you find lugging it around?
we have SB 20 (RED MX) and bit heavy if I were a one man crew.

It's the carbon sticks, it's heavy but not that bad. I'm waiting on a friend to send me one of the TuffPak cases for it, but I may eventually invest in a porta-brace for it.

Thanks for the tips, putting together a road kit and research is slow.

I like this rig a lot, and I am particularly fond of the fact that you took the time to do what none of us did... light the camera and put a nice back drop behind it... I just busted out my iphone while the camera was on the the kitchen counter... When my rig is fully done I'll do a few pictures like this for my website and post them. I really like it.

Isaac how much weight do you think your sporting with your Scarlet and misc?

Did I totally miss out on your comment, Eric? Yes I did. I'm sorry!

I think in that config it's about 20lbs.

Also thanks Louis. I come from a product photography background so I couldn't help but take a photo of a camera...inception!

Here's how Scarlet was configured for a shoot yesterday:

The PIX 240 was a godsend for a quick turn around. And in this config I'm sure I'm easily pushing about 22-23lbs.

Thanks Isaac.
Man that seems lighter than I thought.
Checking cause of the Sachtler 18 you have in your pic.

Plus the your awesome rig ;)

It's a great tripod. My company doesn't have a video tripod so I usually bring mine in from anything from running a canon C300, 5Dmk2, and my RED. Works like a champ.

A fellow Red User's Sachtler was my first experience with quality tripods/heads, so I've kind of always flocked towards what I know works.

Crossing my fingers tomorrow about potentially stepping up to the Epic. That and I'd love to upgrade the module adapter to the '+1 Module' so I can run the Red Touch and EVF at the same time.

Im stuck at the tripod part for shopping.

We have a 20 and a 15 at work but I could never afford that for personal use.

The FSB-8 is my price range and that holds 20 lbs thus why I asked.

Since I dont plan on using anything else other than my Scarlet and minimal gear, Im hoping Im doing the right thing.

Or I might have to look at affordable like a Secced.

Eric,

Though I do not own this head, many redusers have recommended it including Jarred and Jim if memory serves me correctly:

Plus, I believe Advance Pro has one in their showroom if you want to check it out.

Thanks James!
This one was in my list along with 545 sticks.
I will be testing the SECCED over the week-end and got to play with work Sachtler 20.
All I can say is that the Sachtler is built like a tank but thats what you get for a 10K plus system.

I found my 18 with 2 stage CF sticks and floor spreader for 3500 on ebay. It takes a LOT to damage a sachtler, so if you hunt you can usually find good deals. Just an FYI that you don't HAVE to spend 10K on a complete system.

Here's my Scarlet-X in both tripod and handheld configuration. I like this setup because I can quickly go from tripod to handheld via the dovetail system. It has lots of mounting points. The batteries last about 90-100 minutes each. I also prefer to use a monitor that I can position wherever I need using a Noga arm rather than looking through an EVF. Just a personal preference.

Hey Phillip,
I kind of have a very similar setup although 15 MM LW for FF and Matte Box but still the same Bridge plate to go onto the shoulder mount. I was wondering...as I'm looking into getting a tripod...what's the approximate weight of your setup without the shoulder rig? Or anyone for that matter...I don't have a scale at home and am really bad in guessing...What's the weight for a RED Scarlet with Matte Box, FF, V-Mount batteries and plates etc. Just approximately...

Last but not least....anyone has experience or an opinion about the CARTONI GAMMA Fluid Head? Is GAMMA or LASER enough for a Scarlet Set-up?

cheers.

Love to see that this thread is still going. Finally got a good BTS from someone.
