  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Post Your Scarlet-X Rig

Dmitry, wow am I confused. That cage was that cheap, and it arrived? No dodgeyness/scam?

I'm looking at this and don't know what to make of it, because there is nothing that comes even close to as cheap as this http://camera777.com/dslr-rig/41-pro-kit-for-red-scalet.html

I do not know what to make of this.

Yeah it arrived well - I was 100% sure that it looks like some sort of scam - but no, it arrived and I'm pretty happy with the quality.

I just pulled the trigger on the cage special. I'll see how it works with my Wooden Camera gear. I ordered 2 days ago and haven't heard from them so I'll just have to see how long it takes to get in.

Mine takes about a week... But it definitely something interesting with this page - HOW come they have SAME product twice for totally different price? Have no idea. But Now I really complaining about not getting entire RIG from them for less than $600 :)))

Here is a look at my rig. Scarlet-X AL with CinemaOxide IDX Plate, Wooden camera bottom plate w/ 15mm rods clamps and top handle, RedRockMicro Matte box and Follow Focus Blue. Another setup includes the Zacuto EVF mounted off the handle.

Shervin is right.
I just returned from Asia. We are fucked.
They have factories with rows of CNC machines a football field long.
Walking around a city you think you are in 'Blade runner', ultra modern shopping centers with 40 foot LED video signage outside.
The insides make anything in Beverly Hills look like K-mart.
A RED cage is about $15 of aluminum.
We do the R&D , they measure it and program up the CNC tool paths in no time.

I was chatting with an electronics sub system engineer from France working in Hong Kong, and he told me the the scariest thing you can say to a Chinese company rep is:
" oh, don't worry about that little detail, you can just solve it with your creativity .... "
This results in a look of fear, panic and sweating.

I'm pretty sure it's not a scam. Others have gotten the same product here, they're just not vocal about it.

And the reason why it's so cheap? They're a 'cloning' business. Almost no time spent in R&D, labour is cheap, and there's almost no overhead to deal with since they're just found online. The only difference between this product and others, is that it's a Korean guy pressing the button on the CNC mill, and not an American or a German. They're made to the exact same tolerances and use the same billet aluminum. Not sure about their anodizing though.

Totally true, however, I think it's changing. Their brain drain will be cured in a few years, and it's only because of emerging markets.

Take Turkey for an example. 10 years ago, no one would have thought they'd be an economic superpower between Europe and Asia. People would have laughed to think that Turkish made products would be hitting stateside or ever gain prominence on the world stage. Here we are 10 years later and Turkey is amongst one of the finest producing countries available today. Thank the CNC machine, definitely, but also thank globalization. Quite a few of us know of a company called 'Edelkrone' but do we know that it's Turkish? No. No one would ever dare to think a Turkish company would be creating some of the most creative video production gear, built to the finest quality, and for alot cheaper than you'd imagine.

This is the world we're going to. Alot of the stuff is being cloned right now, but give it a few more years and you'll see a complete change in the typical mindset that the "American designed, overseas made" model works. American companies will have to try even harder to compete on a world stage, which will soon be dominated by creative geniuses thought almost impossible to design and manufacture their own products.

I'm working on it...

Okay, what is going on here? I like what I'm seeing, but not sure exactly what it is :) Is that Kipro Mini mounted on a WC quick plate? What is behind the Kipro? Looks pretty wicked!

"Pazuzu" everyone, everyone, "Pazuzu" !

(sorry for the crappy iphone pictures)

I've designed by myself and build in a workshop here in Italy, I need to change some things but it works great. The ki pro is firmly united to the brain and the top plate. The strange box is just to deliver the power to the brain and the kipro. Is a bit big because I used the xlr plugs and it helps to keep the baricentre slighty on the back when I use with the shoulder.

Maybe a little bit heavy?
