  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Post Your Scarlet-X Rig

Is noone using RED's new Gunner rig? Just ordered it, and I was hoping to see some setups with it...

hehe .... hope your insurance knows that your flying the Scarlet on a rc copter .... :P

If you have been flying remotely piloted aircraft professionally for over 30 years without filing a claim; getting insurance isn't much of an issue. It's still rather expensive nonetheless. I have been flying these particular aircraft with 10 lb. payloads on them for the last 10 years so I'm not really in uncharted waters hauling around the Epic/Scarlet. I wouldn't even consider flying such expensive cameras on an aircraft that I didn't know quite this well.

Just a start to the rig I am working on. Still waiting on the side handle and a couple other accessories.

Anyone have any experience with the Wooden Camera top handle and any of the V-Mount backs?

Do they conflict? My MG1Concepts plate comes tomorrow, and I'm worried that I'll need a small riser or something for it.

I received this photo from Wooden Camera when I requested to see all parts together.
Here we have see the Wooden camera top handle, and the three part V Battery mount system- (Switronix Quickback, QB battery back and Switronix v mount + what
seems to be a more or less 210w/hr battery.. definitely larger than a 95w/hr batt.
Hope this helps clarify your vision...

Hey!!! Since when did WC start adding mounting holes to the front of the top plate? Oh well, the price to pay being an early adopter.

Congrats William,
why such a low serial number coming home so late?
also could you give me details on the mic mount?
thanks

Ooh long journey for #29 or did you rent it out?

Tell me william, what's the top 15mm rod setup? Redrock?

I have no idea how I got that low a number actually, I ordered in mid January, I was expecting #2200 +

The mic mount is an Audio Technica shock mount, normally goes on the end of a boom pole but it has a hot shoe that fits into the Wooden Camera hot shoe adapter.

She's all mine! The top rods are coming off the Wooden Camera LW 15mm top mount and hold a Juiced Link audio box on the end and a Red Rock Micro FF mounted upside down.

What device is that on top of your Scarlet. I'm assuming it provides phantom power and let's you adjust levels?

Yup. It's a Juiced Link box that goes right into the Scarlet and provides actual knobs and phantom power. It actually works very well. I bought it just for when I'm doing run and gun type stuff and don't have an audio pro on the shoot.

Thanks for the prompt reply William. I'm looking for just the thing, I have external recorders and all, but I need something so that I can sync audio clips a lot easier and some on the go things for some journalistic works.

Also do you need to make any adjustment with the juicebox (such are rewiring the cables) or can you just plug it in out of the box to get it working?

My solution to the vexing & expensive rig issue. This is my version of lateral thinking.

This set up doesn't cost the earth however it is sturdy, reliable & repeatable with no stuffing around, critical for me on jobs.

It's interesting with the Shoot 35 MB I have swing away. However with this system I now find it easier & quicker just to slide the camera back on its QR system. The pics below show how my system handles larger lens through to primes without to much mucking about at the "front end" with the MB & FF system.

This is still a work in progress at the moment I'm doubling up on 15mm rails partly checking the concept will work with 19mm but also possibly pending a Atomos Samurai purchase which I will mount on the back end of the rails behind the camera. If not I will loose the bottom set of rails & fix the long baseplate directly to the underside of the camera QR system.

The adjustable shoulder pad set up mounted to the long base plate works really well for balancing on the shoulder regardless of battery or lens configuration.

The FF system with its one rail lock system isn't bad for the dollars it works well with modern lenses, however I also have vintage Leicas and this FF is so big for such small lenses. Running the FF from the bottom rail saves about 25mm of width stopping the FF dial from sticking in your face when on the shoulder. I'm presently wrestling with conscience if to keep or find a smaller FF.

I'm will be mounting the touch screen on a Red Arm doing away with the present system on the long nato rail. However once I have the arm I will mount the nato rail to the side of the top plate roughly in the same position & then use nato rail as flexible handle mounting track for going true handheld.

Anyone know of an alternative to the EASY RISER on Wooden Camera? Need to move my Wooden Camera top handle about a quarter inch towards the front of hte camera so there is room for my batteries.

Nice Mike!
Not sure which is easier on the eyes: the camera, or the fact you are demoing it beside the ocean! Bastid! ;D

What is your shoulder pad? Presume power is REDVOLTS since no batteries visible.

Wendell, where are you flying out of?

Got any links to show off some of your RC work?

I like this setup. How do you use the follow focus?

Here is my setup. Can be fully built or easily broken down to camera, side grip and monitor without any tools.
