  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Post Your Scarlet-X Rig

Brandon, I have the 504HD and I love it with the Scarlet. It is only rated for 16lbs, and I was worried about how it would play with the Scarlet, but it has worked well so far. Mind you...I haven't loaded the rig completely yet, it's been a slimmed down config so far (Zeiss ZFs, 15mm LW, FF, short rods, VF Vmount plate and battery). On my next shoot, it will also carry a ki pro mini, a M-one motor, Bartech rx, and a mattebox. We'll see how that goes, but should be fine.

My guess is that the 504HD would hold up well until you get into big PL glass, 19mm rails and components, as everything starts getting much heavier.

Awesome, thanks for the heads up. I won't be getting into PL glass much, and if I do, I'll be renting an O'Connor for it like I usually do. For myself, I work light, so I think teh 504 will be great.

What legs do you have?

Weighed mine this morning - Body + 50-150mm Red Zoom, + Vmount bat plate + 75wh Vmount bat, + Top handle, + 5" Touch LCD = 15.8 Lbs. Can't get much more stripped down than that; would def be over 17-18LBS once I add Mattebox & FF & even LW 15mm rails.
Yeah, that zoom is massive. I think the 504 will be great for what I need 95% of the time.

i'll be using my Manfrotto 516. For the price it's a great head, supports up to 22lbs so it should handle the scarlet quite well.

Was just trying to give you an idea of what the bare bones body would weigh with a PL zoom.

For sure...I appreciate it. I was definitely surprised, I didn't think that it would weight in so high. Looks like 50-150 weighs 3.3 lbs, which doesn't seem that heavy.

The legs that I have are 546B.

It is kind of light - I have primes that weigh more… In the studio it lives on an O'Connor 50, that is as old as the planet itself.

Trevor, so you may want to think about hanging your wireless follow focus reciver off the rails on the side of the camera or attach to the top plate on the side. Right now you have it right above the vents and that area can get hot and may cause you problems. Also, you are right in top of of the antennae area for the Redmote and again you may be killing your signal. I def notice a difference on my epic when I have that area obscured (with a metal) and when I don't. Just a heads up as you wait for scarlet and have some time to play with your confit.

Thanks Randall, I really appreciate it. I'm not using the Redmote, so that won't be a problem for now. However, I definitely thought about the cooling thing and wondered if that might be an issue. There's a good inch of space between the bottom of the controller box and the top of the camera, with space open on the left, right, and back for air to flow. Do you think this will still be an issue or is that an adequate amount of space for cooling? I really appreciate your help man.

trevor how do u like the chrosziel wireless system?

I love it. Very easy to use, robust, and comfortable, with great battery life and expandability. The modular build of the hand controller makes it easy to pack away nice and small into a Pelican 1200 case :)

Shape FTW

I don't own one but I have tried them at trade shows. They are simple but very well made. They do have good customer service too. The best thing I have seen from them is the locking grips.

They offer a no-nonesense design. Functional with good pricing.

QUOTE=Patrick Grossien;927046]Hey Bob,

these are extremely on the cheap side. How does the FF hold up?
Any thoughts on the quality of the rig you might wanna share?
Did you ever try any other rigs you could compare it to?

Thx for sharing!

All weight can be offset with just adding longer rods on top. That is what the battery plate is for. To be able to counter-balance.

Cool and compact setup Steve:thumbup1:
