Hey all,

Hope that someone might be able to help out with either info.... or more. Produced a project a little while ago and my team and I are going through the post process right now. We've realized that there is some stuff that needs to be painted out / fixed....

Full project is only 14min's long. Shot 4K RED EPIC, and in my mind it's semi simple stuff.... lights in reflections.... a cable stuff like that. I was hoping that I could find out...

- normal file type to give to a fx person (resolution and format)
- cost
- recommendations... or is there anyone here that might be able to help out

not a huge production so we are limited in resources. but thought I would reach out here and see if anyone could help.

Thanks in advance!!!!!

We / Syndicate can do it.

Best is to work striaght on r3d trim files.

Regarding Costs, is difficult to say without looking at the shots.

My advice is that you upload a compressed HD edit holding only the VFX shot onto vimeo with a password. Then People here can PM you and get a password, overview the clips and send you a proper budget for the work needed.

Then of course my advice would be not to go so much for the lowest bidder / price but also overlook the former work done by the people asking to do the job.

Then it's fairly easy to ftp the edit as color balanced and trimmed r3d's files, as those files are far lighter than DPX files or such and still contains the full raw files.

Then when the work is done it's usually better to send back as 10 or 12bit dpx on drive as that gets a bit heavy.

everyone may want different things. i would be skeptical of anybody that doesn't just want the r3d's...

need more info to give even a general idea of cost - images, number/type of shots, notes about what you want done, delivery date...

agreed with bjorn (and btw, he does legit work)

i'd be happy to help however i can, i composite and color, you can consult with me for free.

i'll give you a quote if you show us images... we can fix your stuff up in a jiffy (:

We tend to do these simple fix's in the finishing / gradeing session, if you are finishing / gradeing in a highend box like Mystika / DS / Pablo that have a vector based paint system included it's pretty fast and straightforward, faster than exporting / importing / QCing DPX

But if you are finishing on a box that only has raster based paint like Flame / Smoke, or a gradeing system that has little tools for this like Resolve / Luster /Baselight / Speedgrade then you would be better off going the VFX route

When we send stuff to Nuke i send a care package of DPX + ref Qt + truncated r3d's + debayer metadata + viewer LUT and let the artist chose what to use

This morning just removed coffee chain logo's from the BG of six shots, some shot on a dolly two hand held, all with extra's intersecting the logo's.. it's taken me about 60 min. all done in the master timeline by using vector paint and filling the brush with a tree with blurs and color correct and then tracking the paint stroke - fast simple easier than doing the round trip ho-ha

I'm spoiled, but i do grade and finish alot of indie features and tv films
