I was digging around through old hard drives and found my very first clip that I ever shot on my Red. It was recorded January 30th, 2008, the day that my beast arrived at my doorstep.

Here is mine,

Good thread Rick!

I'll have to go digging for those first clips. Seems like ages ago. Will be fun to see those clips now with new color science.

I don't even remember what the first thing I shot was... Going to pull an LTO tape or two and see what's there...

EDIT> OK, oldest thing I have saved is from May 18, 2008 -- which isn't long after I received the camera (a couple weeks). The few things I shot before getting my own RED were some stuff at Gibby's LART event and then I was DIT and AC on a couple small jobs between LART and receiving my own camera.

Here's a still -- my kids were playing on an inflatable water slide. I had just got ahold of the LensBaby 3G PL and I had it on the camera. I don't recall what aperture ring I had installed or how much ND I was using (probably about 4 stops ND). ISO 320, 24fps 4K 2:1 RC28.. I pulled it in and left the WB at 5600 and set to redcolor/redgamma. no other adjustments... I've cut some of this footage together with other home movies and such. I don't know if I'll post a clip or not.

I also have an overcranked shot of a ceiling fan on the same day, if anyone is interested... Looks like it was shot with my Peleng 8mm fisheye lens.

I don't have the first "clip", but this is the first project I did.

I rented the RED having absolutely no idea what I was doing. But hey, I learn best by doing. I shot it in 4 hours. It was rough. I didn't know how long it would take to set everything up. I come from "run and gun" video.

There's another video on my Vimeo page called "Painting". It was shot in about 3 hours for the same project.

This is the only time I've been able to use the Red, but I fell in love with it instantly. I can't wait for the Scarlet to be released!

This is a still from my first tests with our Red.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

I'd be interested tio know what the first clip Jim shot with a Red...

First thing I shot was the morning after it arrived... OK i didn't wait that long to fire it up. but i definitely didn't keep anything before the next morning. The next morning i went out and tried out a timelapse of the sunrise... without a tripod. it was a bit shaky when i stepped near the chair it was on, and my guess of where the sun was going to rise was off a bit, but it was a great feeling when i look back on it. Sadly i no longer have the original red file... or if i do it is tucked away on a unlabeled bluray. but i have a couple stills from my quicktime out put from red alert. definitely wasn't a full debayer. oh well, how else do you learn these things right?

Edit:

I think this would have been Oct 27 2008

ahhh the memories. I gotta dig up those old stills as the links no longer work =(

one of these days we should have a reunion meet hehe. To think it has been nearly three years since the first 25 reds were released.

I remember taking so long to shoot the first clip, because it was such an historic moment and the clip would probably end up in the Smithsonian. But it is no more ... workflow experiments ... reformatting ... hard drive organizing ... deemed it expendable. I could however reproduce it. I'll reshoot it when the Epic stage III ships.

Sanjin, what are you going to do in the future? Epic? Scarlet?

I'm waiting for Epic and probably Scarlet is coming after that.

In meantime collecting lightweight gear (just order a motor for Cine Slider from Kessler's Crane reseller here...).

I want to have a lightweight 5K camera that can fit in backpack, take a bike, ride and shoot documentaries...
