How to connect windows pc (with red rocket card and gtx 680 installed in it) to three monitors- Nec paw 271 w, samsung led tv, Lg pc monitor using Blackmagic hdlink pro dvi. So that editing, color grading and reference monitoring can be performed at the same time. Thank you for your help in advance. Please note that I need suggestions and recommendations regarding the tools I have listed.

One thing missing, by a probe and possibly some lut boxes so your screens can be porperly calibrated.

Thanks for the response Bjorn. Nec monitor came with spectra view calibrator is that good enough?

What is probe and lut box? what brand and where to buy them from? Thanks

There you go, I rest my case then :)

I think black magic has "lut boxes" do not know if that is the correct term and I do not know what brand is the best but basically it's a little converter box that you can feed with a lut so that the signal going to your monitor gets altered in a way so that the screen shows the signal right. It's used for monitors that can not take a lut and a lot of times that is a more solid way of getting your colors right than letting your computer or software handle the calibration lut.

how to connect all these properly?

Dave,

spectra view calibrator == crap, even for the NEC

i1 Display Pro (i1D3) is a great colorimeter for the price IF (!) profiled to a spectro. Otherwise it will be somewhat off, mostly in the reds - and then it will drift over time.... more... and more... every colorimeter needs to be profiled to a spectro.

BMD HD Link has been reported to have major issues with 3D LUT processing. BMD knows about this for almost a year. They have done NOTHING. Do not trust this box. There are people who say that their box works fine with LUT's, question is if they know how to verify the LUT's are actually applied / working correctly or maybe they got lucky and got a working unit.

But since you seem to care about color accuracy, do not trust this box unless you have confirmed LUT's are applied correctly.

There are other LUT boxes out there, but the cheaper ones (still at least double the price of the HD LInk) do not have a 3 outputs.

Btw, editing screen and Grading GUI do not need to be color accurate. Reference obviously needs to be. Client monitor can be an off the shelf screen, uncalibrated to show the client how the project actually will look like in 99% of the consumer homes (which have an uncalibrated display).

Hi Mike, I believe you didn't get my question. I'll try again. How do I connect my pc with hdmi out to blackamgic hd link pro SDI in? Thanks for your help in advance.

Dave,

I was helping you out regarding your title ("Post production best set up...") and your other questions throughout the thread ("What is probe and lut box? what brand and where to buy them from?")... ;-)

Can't advise you on your other question as it appears the HD Links do not have a HDMI input and I'm not a fan of converting the signal...

Hi Mike someone suggested me to by hdlinkpro and now I have this problem of connecting it. Thanks for the info.

Hey Mike, is it a bad idea to use some sort of hdmi to sdi converter?

like I said above, I'm not a fan of converting the signal... especially for reference display output as you intend to.

maybe there are really good converter (I can't advise), but in general you want to avoid as many conversions as you can in the signal path.
