Has there been any talk of an actual EVF for the Komodo or the possibility to use our existing DSMC 2 EVFs?

There was some mention of a portkeys EVF with komodo specific controls somewhere....or i could be seeing things.

And you are happy with the Zacuto Kameleon?

I read from a few people that the port keys EVF has a very loud fan. That’s the only thing putting me off from buying it. I might just have to grab a zacuto EVF of some sort.

I'd been thinking the SmallHD 502 with Sidefinder would be perfect-- I like the idea of accessories that can serve multiple purposes for this camera, since the camera itself is sort of a switch hitter. But is the Sidefinder out of production?

While I'd love a dedicated EVF, I can otherwise imagine using one of the 3rd party "viewfinder" solutions with a SmallHD focus/Portkeys/Atomos.

OMG I tried to like the sidefinder. It was pretty terrible.

Well let’s hope Red is listening and supplies us with their own. My Red OLED is amazingly good.

Also waiting to see what comes out in EVFs for Komodo. I'd go for the Kameleon, but it's just too expensive for me at this time. Keeping an eye on ZCams upcoming EVF. Zacuto Gratical Eyes go for a reasonable price used. Wish Portkeys OEYE had better reviews.

I'm in the market for a new EVF as well. I've got the Zacuto Gratical HD, which is pretty good overall, but only 1280x720. I'm looking for full HD for best focus assistance. With my eyes, I need all the help I can get! I do like all the features of the Gratical HD, though. Can run off its own battery, which I like. Gets decent battery life using LPE6, at least a couple hours. Has both SDI and HDMI with pass through. Also has solid scopes (that show below the video) and tools like LUTs and more. What I don't like about it is that the OLED screen has burn in. I wish I had know that was a problem up front so I could have done a better job of mitigating it by running a blue screen every day or other tricks. Now I'm stuck with burnt in menu pixels. It's still plenty usable, but annoying. Honestly, if they could upgrade the Gratical HD to 1920x1080, that would pretty much be my perfect EVF.

I have a few of the Zacuto Z-finders. The ones with the loupe and screen. I may not have that name quite right. I think it's basically what they call the Zacuto ACT EVF Pro now. Very good bang for the buck. Not high enough res for me these days (800x480), but a workhorse. Just beware that if you don't cover the eyecup, the loupe will fry the screen on a sunny day in an instant. I've had mine in four times to replace the screen. They no longer replace screens on those, so if you screw up, you're stuck with a fried screen forever. Maybe they replace screens on the newer ones. I don't know.

I really want to buy into the Portkeys OEYE, but that fan is a dealbreaker.

The Z-Cam EV101 shows promise, but I'm not in love with 1440x1440 and the 2-pin power requirement. I'm assuming the HUD is below the video, which I prefer. Built-in Wireless? Yes, please. Apparently you can see the pixel grid. No thanks. I might rent one to check out. I like the look.

I'm actually considering the Ikan EVF50 or SmallHD DP4 EVF type units, though my gut tells me I won't be happy with it since it's just an eyepiece slapped on a 5" monitor. That's basically what the Zacuto Z-Finders are, but on smaller screens.

That brings us to the Kameleon. Overall, it's tough to beat. Full HD. Good feature set. I wish it had built-in battery option. I can't find a better universal EVF so far.

The market is screaming for a decent, affordable EVF. I'd love to see Feelworld, Atomos, SmallHD, Blackmagic, someone to fill this gap. I'm looking for 1920x1080, SDI and HDMI with cross conversion, built-in battery option, at least four dedicated function buttons, LUT support, dead quiet, screen that doesn't burn in, and an eyepiece that prevents sun burns.

The OEYE fan is by far the biggest deal breaker, without a doubt. I wish I could test it in person to confirm it is as bad as people say, but it seems to be a common complaint - no doubt it's a problem.

Also considering renting the Z-Cam EVF to give it a go. Seems a bit "cheap" based on initial reviews of the product, but when it's half the cost of the Kameleon, I suppose there will be serious quality differences.

Really wish Blackmagic would sell their Ursa Mini EVF without the arm attachment and with SDI/Power. That would be perfect.
