Hello,

I was looking for some advice into running a gas generator for a shoot coming up. Basicly I haven't worked much with Gennies and was wondering if there is any pitfalls I should know about. I plan to use it to charge red power cells, run a jvc lcd monitor. And possibly run the camera directly from the gennie. Is it going to blow up my precious camera gear? :) Sorry if these sound like basic questions. There are a couple that I was looking at but more or less like this guy here.

Any insight or experience with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

That seems to be a bit overkill for what you need to power, unless I'm missing something. I use Honda EU2000's a lot, they are fairly quiet and are regulated for use with electronics. You can also parallel 2 of the together if you need more power.

Trilabite, I feel the items you listed really do not need a "generator", they all seem to be very low draining devices, I'd recommend to look into inverter options, such as a pure sine wave inverter hooked up to your vehicle while its running or directly to a Optima yellow top series battery.

Thanks for the feedback. The Honda EU2000 might be a good way to go. Allot of what we shoot is going to be quite remote, and a vehicle wont be a viable option. Although I do agree that is a good solution if a vehicle is accessible. My thoughts on a bigger Gennei, is if I need more juice for a future shoot I have it. Instead of needing yet another generator. I would prefer one that is simply up to any task. I suppose the real question is does this bigger Generator I'm looking at have the same regulated power as the Honda Jeff mentioned. Or am I at risk of frying some sensitive electronics with it.

Spent one month on a piece of rock in the middle of the southern ocean filming R1 powered with Honda 1KW genie. In a word: brilliant.

The genie only uses about 0.5L of petrol an hour, it is highly portable, ultra quiet, and very reliable. I ended up using the genie instead of batteries - much quicker and simpler.

Sounds good guys, you sold me! :) Just picked up the 1KW genie special. Excited to see how it goes. Thanks for the photo Pawel, that looks like a beautiful place to shoot!
