I have asked this before, but I can't find the thread. Someone posted a website with extensive TV reviews but I have forgotten the name.

In the longer term I want a Loewe Bild 2 or 3 TV. But, for now, due to budget limits, I think I want a Sony. Of course I do need to go out and see them for myself, but I would like to start with a very short list of candidates.

An example of a short listed candidate is this 50" Sony:

These are made in Japan, right? Anyway, I would prefer that, but I know that Samsung makes TVs in Malaysia, which is perfectly fine with me.

Speaking of Samsung:

I would prefer a matte screen over a glossy one, and 50" is an ideal size for where it's going. Wall mounting is not an option in that space.

Some friends of ours bought themselves a huge Samsung 75" or something and it's insane. But then again they sit further away from theirs, and it's wall mounted. I helped install it and it was fun, if a little troublesome. They are heavy!

I judged a 4K and 8K television shootout late 2021 of all current popular models (a couple weird ones too), and perhaps more relevant I've produced content for a lot of the modern 4K and 8K screens even not included in the shootout.

If you can foot the bill and enjoy OLED, you should look closely at the Sony XR65A90J. It is unfortunately larger than 50 inches at 65 inches. They do have a 55 model however. The LG G1 is really not far behind.

Outside of that there are many questions regarding budget, performance, expectations, features and more that might impact your decision.

LG OLED 65 inch for a few years now. For 4k blu-ray or streaming they're top notch. Be aware though that screen burn in and retention is a real thing. I highly recommend another smaller TV or monitor in addition to, for anything else; news channels with static banners or editing, computer use ect.
