  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Playback for EPIC...

^ you should just pass through an evf or monitor... the zacuto evf is an example of an evf that can pass HDMI through. I do HDMI out from camera -> zacuto EVF -> teradek cube. Works perfectly with F3 or Red1.

Abraco forte Paulo...
Pode usar por SDI tbem...funciona bem com a nossa M.

Proxy/h.264 module could indeed be the better alternative to in-camera playback. Could stream/store wireless to multiple cheap displays like iPad (which RED demonstrated already quite a while ago). Would be okay for most on-set clients. When it comes to QC, I would think that an external playback station/RED-Ray with a dedicated HQ monitor and flexible GUI would be the better choice anyway compared to in-camera playback. Camera shouldn't be kept busy with this anyway.
Well, at least a very basic in-camera playback option would suffice with respect to better options like this.

IS playback working internally on alpha cameras?

Or is it still something they are trying to figure out ?

Out of curiosity Mark, what would you have done if it wasn't a wrap? Did you have a clone in the chopper for a second take? ;)
.

The plan was when the Jumper hit the ground, he and his assistant repacked immediately, the 500 comes in hot, picks them up and resets back at 14,000... until they here me radio wrap!.

In this case, it was a wrap on that shot, ... I had approved it before he even touched down... and I was already traveling at 200kmh to the nearest pub :)

Playback

Hi,

Will playback with both the HDRX track be possible with an option to select such as magic motion etc as in RED CINE X PRo??

Just tested the AJA Ki Pro Mini today for an upcoming job that requires playback on set.

Couldn't be simpler! Set LANC trigger recording and it initiates and stops recording with the same timecode and file name as the Epic's R3D, in sync with pushing the record button on Epic.

So for the moment, that's a very workable solution that would be perfect with a small monitor, in a scenario like the one Mark Toia mentioned about deciding in flight if the take is good.

HTH!

Cheers from Japan,

Paul :)

So Paul, as an extra bonus would you consider the Ki as a good audio recorder, is one adds an external high-end mixer?

Hi Soren,

I can't speak to the audio quality sorry as I didn't test it. But as a former sound recordist, I'd have to say if you want the best audio quality, record dual system sound (audio recorder plus line out into the camera) or similar.

Of course if you are not after critical quality and are ok with the limitations of the Ki Pro as an audio recorder (and are ok with HD-SDI audio) then I guess it could be ok.

HTH

Cheers from Tokyo,

Paul :)
