  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PL to EOS Adapter on Epic

Just tools guys - I don't see it as something that replaces the PL mount. It just lets you, if your shooting Canon that day, mix in a PL lens here and there. I think it's an useful thing, especially for the price.

Matt I like that picture.

I think you probably spent more time posting it than taking it, but I like the picture.

Every time I try to explain to myself why I like it, I keep thinking phrases I would normally use to negatively comment on a picture ... but I really like it. Sometimes its funny, and I think I accidentally learned something.

Coming back to the thread topic, I can see that there are some PL to EOS you guys are comfortable with.

I've used two, one of unknown provenance, and another MTF I think. I wasn't pleased with either. Granted I used them on a 7D ... but I just didn't like them. I thought they were a bit loose on the EOS body side ... that's probably more to do with the EOS mount's nature though ... and the locking ring on Epic's Canon mount might address that.

[I babbled here about lenses I use with EOS mount cameras, basically saying get EOS lenses, which was stupid of me to say. Sorry.]

I have been happier with Nikon F to EOS mounts, I especially like the Fotodiox cheap adaptor which I like to just leave on the lens. There are some fantastic used Nikon lenses out there. You can probably score a few and add gearing/adaptor for less than the better PL to EOS adapters cost.

This whole discussion is going to be more interesting on Nov. 3, after the Canon announcement ... I'm relatively sure they are going to announce EOS lenses optimized for use in video/cinema applications.

Photo you hate to love or love to hate, was taken by my new favorite lens: Leica 60mm Summicron w/ Leitax EOS mount.

I think there will be some interesting EOS mount cine glass in the next year. The Canon mount is very conversion / lens hacker friendly especially on mirrorless cameras.

I've rounded up a posse of Leica R's in Leitax hard mounts... Nikon AIS is great too of course, but he reversed focus direction makes me insane.

Well, that is nice. Wait ... don't let Sanjin know!

Nikon's get me crazy too ... but I get used to them in an hour or so - provide I have an all Nikon kit.

What I never get used to is when I have Nikon's mixed in with other lenses. The only thing I can do with that is to make sure I have plenty of marks on the handwheel, and I often resort to diagramming which direction to rotate next on the handwheel next.

Not that I pull focus much anymore. I forgot I like that job though. Pulled last weekend on some Zeiss ZE lenses for a friend.

Matt your right !

Our best set up we think is Canon EF mount and A mount system. A mount converts to PL, BNCR, Y/C and Nilkon and more interestingly Leica R, cant do Canon EF anoyingly. So well use the Red EF mount for this. nikon works better than we thought exxepting the direction of rotation which is an infernal annoyance.

I am interested in a good PL adapter too. Great option for us budget challenged hobbyists vs the Ti PL mount. I want to shoot some PL mount 16mm zooms at 2k for general video doc work. Obviously mirror clearance won't be an issue with Scarlet, but the throat diameter might be. I was wondering about this as I have some C to PL adapters for some of my lenses. A couple will need ARRI standard or B to PL adapters. So 52mm is throat diameter for both the Canon EOS and PL mount? Will this remain the same with the adapter mounted? What about correct flange focus distance?

Seems nice but I would imagine that there are some mounts out there that are really nice and do the job but that are priced way lower than some of these in this thread. I guess $500 isn't so bad for a PL mount. I just think a cheaper solution is out there.

Fotodiox has one for $200 on Amazon.

LOL ... I'm in the opposite camp. I've shot on Nikons since ?... Well, a long time. And I usually had a focus puller for cine lenses. So I'm always trying to figure out how you guys can work with all the backwards Zeiss glass!

Seems to be similar to Fotodiox's offering but only $80. This is probably as cheap as it gets, straight from china, either they ripped off Fotodiox, Fotodiox rebranded and imported theirs at a big markup. Not a bad tool to have around for that price if it happens to work alright. And for the cheaper Scarlet users, who prefer not to spend $2k on an additional PL mount from RED or anyone who wants faster EF to PL switches in some situations it might make sense.

Any one who own this one, please give me some feed back?

Thanks
