  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PL MOUNTS ?

- The DSMC Ti PL Mount (Captive)
- The WC PL Mount
- The DSMC MG PL Mount 2.0

1. DSMC Ti PL Mount - Titanium, extremely strong and a bit heavier than the other two. Doesn't flex in extreme weather conditions, so you won't have issues disengaging the lens in the arctic.
2. Wooden Camera PL Mount - Aluminum, light weight. Simple mount, no frills. Not the strongest one out there, but I do use it for experiments.
3. DSMC MG PL Mount - Magnesium. A good balance between weight, strength, and sturdiness.

My main mounts are MG for both of my cameras and oddly I have all of these options in my kit.

Just to add to what our resident elder statesmen have said, though it may be obvious: the WC is dumb, so no \i lens metadata, if present. So if Cooke is important to you, Red is the way to go.

I've got the WC PL and it's been great so far. Will truly be the first piece of kit I upgrade though (most of my purchases have been additions to fill out my kit). It feels totally strong and fine to work with, but on some larger glass I would just sleep better knowing I had a more robust mount. I'll go for the TI PL from RED when I can upgrade next, but the WC PL has been a great way to easily tell anyone "oh yeah, I've got both EF and PL so no matter what, we're covered".

WC pl doesn't lock down properly on my xeen lenses pl mount. They rattle and are very loose. Not sure which end the issue is. Probably the xeens. Luckily I have ef mounts for them and the al red ef mount.

I've screwed up the WC PL Mount once. Was shooting a commercial, and one shot was supposed to make a high-speed pan (Epic MX, Ultra-Prime 60mm). The follow-focus was an ARRI FF-4, I guess, and the Matte Box was Arri MB4 with a couple filters inside. The pan was pushing the lens into the focus-puller hand, and was repeated almost 50 times. After switching to another shot we've noticed some weird image shift while pulling focus, which was not present on the previous shots. It was due to damage made by fast pans to the mount.

WC is definately a widely used PL-mount option between many rentals in eastern Europe. But be aware it is not that sturdy, as Red counterparts.
