  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

We're very happy with our Scarlet X Canon Al mount. We have job coming up where we could do with a PL mount but it doesn't justify a RED Ti PL.

Will RED offer an alternative PL mount for say $700?

Is there an alternative PL mount out there somewhere?

If so can someone recommend one.

You can rent the PL mount from www.lensrentals.com

I wouldn't put an 3rd party pl mount on your scarlet just isn't worth the risk.

yup. just remember recently Jim or Jarred posted on here that some company in china had made counterfeit cheap pl mount that shorted out the camera. and using such mount will void you warranty.

Would be nice seeing that they do it with the canon and nikon mount.

Doesn't Allstar have a universal mount with a PL adapter?

A mount with PL mount adaptor

Best idea is to post a "wanted to rent -- DSMC Ti PL mount" in the jobs section of the forum here. I'm sure you'll get some replies.

Hell, depending on the length on the rental, I'm not using mine at the moment... ;)

Apart from RIG components and SOME batteries is very bad idea to poke anything "3-rd" party into RED cameras. Could potentially cost you w-a-ay more than $2K to fix.

According to their Site , the OCT 19 Mount is approved by red, the PL I am not sure

For a one project thing.. rent one.
If you want it to play with old lenses, get the cheap one. Your back focus is then probably not to accurate any way.
If you look ahead and want to invest for electronic lens info in headers etc bite the bullet, get the Ti.

Next week comes a new firmware, with motion sensors... then having that and the lens data coming from the red zooms and primes... you got a rig that will make any 3D / programers / VFX guy jaw stay down for a long, long time...

So doing it the RED way and getting the proper mount will put your camera in a totally different category in a very near future, Now, today before those updates the "counter fit PL" would work for most situations, so tomorrow is a different day..

Thanks for all your comments.

Don't want to rent so we are looking at AllStar and Cinemod.

I hear what many of you are saying with - the buy once cry once - theme but if the PL is finding enough work we can upgrade.

How bad can the third party aluminium mounts be if Red are supplying them for Canon.

Not very much information about Cinemod. Has anyone used their PL or the OCT19?
