  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PL Mount 11-16mm f2.8 Prototype, Manual Iris

I believe voigtlander (cosina) makes a 12mm that covers full frame which I think is the widest non fisheye.

There is also the Sigma 12-24mm, a lot of fun on full frame.

I don't think you can mount an ef-s lens on a 5D without some modification, does the Tokina allow it? If it does I think you would have some severe vignetting.

Okay, now I'm confused. If I get the Nikon-compatible 11-16 and put it on an Epic X body with a Nikon mount, will I be able to shoot at 11mm f/2.8 with no vignetting?

The beauty of this lens is that it can take screw-on filters. Even if you have a 14-24G in your arsenal, it would seem good to have one of these 11-16s, too, because you can go wider and use simple filters to keep your setup light. Plus the price is right. :thumbup1:

I'd need to test this out to be 100% certain, but I would guess it will cover the Epic-X. The Tokinas sensor coverage is very generous and increases as you zoom in, covering FX ( or 24x36mm ) at 14.5 to 16mm. I would expect it to work fine @ 12mm on the 15x30mm Epic-X chip, especially if you give up a few pixels to lookaround.

Ken Rockwell did a test on a FX nikon body here:

Jarred - do you have an Epic-X prototype camera we can test it on ? I can bring the lens down next week, or Matt D can possibly hook you up with a loaner.

I'd like to see a test of this too. The lens does fine covering APS-C, which fits within 24 x 16 mm and a 29mm diagonal. However, the 5K Mysterium-X is said to have a 31mm diagonal or image circle. Looking at how the lens covers on a FF35 camera, I agree with your assessment, Matt. But there's only one way to be sure, so here's another vote for the test...

Hasn't duclos tested this? I didn't see it in his chart:

Yes guys, this doesn't really require testing, at least not to arrive to the conclusion that this lens is a must buy. :) Since it covers full frame stills (FX format is x1 crop) at 16mm, you are guaranteed to be able to use it as a prime on anything until FF35 Epics start rolling out, at which point you might want to make sure to be safe, especially if the aspect of the sensor is different.

At 16mm the distortion looks much more pleasing, especially for the foreground, though some of that might be to lessen the extreme perspective look of the wide. Either way I find myself shooting wider only when necessary or when it fits.

About the mounts, I have no clue. This is a Canon mount though, so the only issue would be if there are differences between the 7D and the 5D mounts. I guess there might be. Ship me your 5D and I'll let you know. :D
An other APS-C still at (with a Spinal Tap accent) eleven:

Just wondering if one is to order this lense now, approx wait time for delivery, I emailed duclos but no response, so thought I would ask here.

Oh and has anyone shot with this lense and cut it together with the RPP's, if so does it match close enuf, we are shooting a feature and have the rpp's and are thinking of this lense for the wide.

THanks

Just did a short using the RPP's and the Duclos/Tokina as the wide. It matched perfectly. Very impressive lens.

We received our Duclos PL Mount 11-16mm f2.8 lens last Thursday. It is very compact and the optics are excellent. We see no obvious barrel distortion and the wide end of the lens is something we don't have with any of our other lenses. Our next shoot we will plan to cut footage between our Red Primes with the Duclos and report back.

PS: The Duclos and the Red Primes are available for rent. We have ATA cases and will ship.

email Duclos or private message him..
