  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

perhaps the pro audio will be somewhere else or on another module

Yup I'm guessing there are different side modules.

To me it would make sense to have he outputs (hopefully mini XLRs) on the front as were on the Epic.

Ideally, they could have taken the old R-1 case, made it out of a sponge-like unbreakable ceramic (for weight savings) and had the mini XLRs coming out the side as before.

Not disparaging the Weapon case skullduggery, just nostalgic for the old R-1. (Not sure I wouldn't be down for an R-1 body with V,V boards and sensor. V,V is going to be on a tripod anyway.)

should have embedded this like so to see without and with the I/O side module

I Wonder if there's any way to hot swap batteries with weapon. One of the things I like the most with my Epic is that I can keep a redvolt on the side handle, and hot sawap Vmounts all day.
I'm guessing weapon may be super fast to power-on.

That monitor looks identical to the current (LEMO) 7", except for the lower half of the hinge.
I hope that Red can offer a modification service, swapping out the hinge for the non-cable version.
Hows about it, Jarred?

It'll be interesting to see if we have to buy a module to get HDMI / SDI / Headphones / etc out of the camera. Let's call it "Standard I/O". Finding out how all these pieces are going to work together is just as interesting as the specs right now.

Modular is great, but completely modular is kind of going backwards, I just hope I don't have to purchase something to have basic HDMI / SDI on the body.

Looks like the new external mic connection is a stereo 1/8" plug. I hope there are XLR or mini-XLR options on other I/O modules as well.

Really glad to see that regular REDVolts still work though!

GREAT! I have one accesory that I can keep...my Bright Tangerine Viv5!!

Thank you very much

Man, I really hope we can either still use our existing side handle or they have a new one.

We just keep seeing photos of the new top handle and the new Swtichblade, and I hate the idea of either having to be on sticks or grab Weapon from the top for doing cinephotography and basic handheld shooting.

The existing side handle will not work on Weapon.

From what we know so far it looks like RED has combined the functionality of the side handle, red mote and switchblade into a new side module (or two). It also appears that this device can be used either wirelessly or snapped on the camera. Based on the early peeks, other than adapters to support existing RED EVF/LCD products and power options that use RedVolts, I wouldn't count on any existing module working with Weapon.

Cheers - #19

Yeah, I too would like a side handle. Perhaps not as bulky as the previous one (since it had all the battery and control stuff built-in). I'm hoping it will be very ergonomic, like holding a DSLR. I don't want anything like the top handle grip. Something that wraps on the body like the previous side handle would be important for comfort hand-holding.

Worst case, I didn't mind the old one so even something like that would be fine.
