Hi Guys

I have a lot of 5K snapshots which I would like to put in an online gallery, the obvious like tumblr and wordpress come to mind for simplicity and easy handling...however I just tried uploading a 5K still to tumblr and it gets horribly downresed and compressed.

Does anyone here know of a blog system that will allow me to upload high resolution images ? Wordpress might be a better way to go since it can be installed on my own webserver and therefore wouldn't need to have a file size restriction I guess....but are there any wordpress themes that would support high resolution images ?

thanks for the help.

Dominik, are you wanting the html page itself to contain the image or just a link to the image? The full width of a 5K image is larger (5120 x 2700) than most screen resolutions. My 17inch MacBook Pro is 1920 x 1200. So i doubt there are many (if any) templates that will contain a 5K image on screen (much less 6K when Dragon comes out) in some sort of gallery view. Maybe I'm misinterpreting what you are asking, but your best bet is to link to a lightly compressed JPEG and let the user download it. But even then, the viewing experience involves scrolling back and forth, up and down, to see the whole image. If it were me, I'd make my gallery a 2K HD gallery with the easily viewable, scrollable images at 1920 x 1080 and then have links to the 5K images, if indeed you are willing to let your 5K images into the wild for free.

I use flickr pro to host my images, you can link to all manner of resolutions from there including full size. There's some degree of integration with wordpress too.

I can also use it to host images to share on here for example:

By grabbing the BB code right off the 'share' button on Flickr

or by linking direct to a particular image size- like the full res of the above

good point about the screen size Andy, full 5K resolution wouldnt be necessary but I'd like to display them as big as possible and I know that a lot of places like instagram or tumblr or free photo hosting services seem to have limitations. 1920x1080 full HD might be the ay to go.

Might have to check out flickr, thanks John.

decided to go with a flickr Pro account, their upload software is quite nice and the unlimited space even for big high-res files as well as the cross platform sharing did it for me, thanks for the hint John.
