  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Philip Bloom and the Canon 7D by night: Wow !

I'm sure they do. That doesn't make the best choice though, it just makes it a work around.

Having an operator fiddling with a camera mid-interview is a distraction, so if you can avoid that situation, then avoid it.

I don't consider pushing a button "fiddling", maybe you do.

It depends on the situation. Sometimes I don't want any distractions at all, I want the interviewee to get lost in their story, other times it doesn't matter in the slightest. Situations vary and so does my approach to filming them. I like to keep an open mind, that's all.

Well if you go into an interview with 12 minute capacity, then you communicate to the interviewee before hand that you will be changing at those intervals, and it should take no longer than 3 seconds to take out a card and push another one in and press REC.

The amount of time it took to read this post is longer than it would take to change cards.

I know what you're saying, though.

Watched the video... It was a piece of s**t cause it was captured with h.624. Sorry. Use a real camera next time.

7D Ready for documentary ?

7D Ready for documentary ?

I agree with Philip, exercised true journalist knows how to work about interview. Not a job for operators !

So 12 mn is enough. Some crews are coming back with 120 hours of video for a 1 hour documentary, or much more ! So crazy !

So Philip would you make a documentary with a Canon 7D ?

Thanks a lot.

Or you could just buy a 16GB card and record for 48 minutes.

The great thing about the 7d is that price. Two bodies can be bought for jobs easily. I have two 5dmkII bodies for that price and will probably by two Scarlets too!!

I found the material I've shot on the 5D to be a bit 'thin' when it comes to grading, how did you find the tonal and dynamic range on the 7D?

it's fine. We all know it's far from ideal. The 7d stands up well to grading as the bit rate has been upped. I convert to edit in Pro Res LT

wow at the h.264 comment.

Sure, next time he should take out a s35mm cam, get permits, shut down the street, rent a genny and get a 10k skypan for ambient light on the buildings. Then you'd need a grip truck, some grips and electrics, a couple of assistant camera people. Philip you better take note, Bryce will be expecting this next time. :rolleyes5:
