  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PERFECT SHOULDER PAD

Can you make something similar that straps on to the operator (like House of Power)? As someone who does handheld all the time for features and network TV, I am not a fan of dovetail rigs for these reasons: 1) they don't sit as low as a strap on. 2) It takes less time to throw a strap on pad on your shoulder than to slide a dovetail on. ie: Mantis = big POA. 3) You never have to adjust fore and aft, just slide the camera. 4) Less crap = less weight.

Right now, I'm using Wooden Camera's hand held rig with a 19mm bridge that mounts to my rods. I always leave it on as it makes transporting Epic easier even when not in hand held. Also, these handles are absolutely brilliant in terms of convenience and build. Then I just throw on a House of Power shoulder pad. It works great but it would've been nicer if HOP designed the pad to have a slight wedge like yours.

Personally, I find the latest slew of shoulder rigs to be absolute overkill and over engineered. The biggest issue right now with hand held and Epic is balance. With backpack style batteries, the Epic is too front heavy. Currently, I'm using Matrix plate to rods to help balance it out. Less than ideal.

if you really want good balance and low COG maybe you should try one of our rigs when they are ready.
You will find out that its not overengineerd , and you would probably wish that you havent spent all the money on accessories to try and make other rigs to work balanced with the Epic. You will also find out like some of our previous customers that you have ended up spending more , even if you have started at a lower base price only to end up with a hybrid that doesnt exactly does the trick. Maybe sometimes something that looks complex is indeed very simple.
best regards

Who's got one in NYC? Just looked at your site and it's pretty amazing how you approached everything from a whole new way. Love how low it is. Also 6G isn't bad for all the support and monitor accessories. If I could only afford to start the whole accessories process from scratch......

Hey Ned please pm me and I will give you all the info you need no prob.
there has been many changes and we are just about to update the website and webstore so some of the things you see there right now might be different. I have redesigned many things to come to the best possible result.
thank you for the compliments kt@aeoncine.com

If part of the discomfort in a shoulder rigs the imbalance in weight between left and right shoulder, and additional stabilisation due to your own centre of gravity shifting to the rightl, perhaps a way to address this could be:

+) Create a fixed collar that allows the left shoulder to provide some of the support of the camera weight (also mentioned in an earlier reply)
+) Physically relocate the battery to the left shoulder
+) In terms of rotational stability maybe the collar could be extended with a Zacuto recoil like handlebar extensions - one down the left side of your body, one down right side (again reducing the imbalance in weight down your right shoulder)

If the zacuto tornado method of focus betters other methods of manual follow focus:
+) Put the extra Tornado cable Inside of one of Right handlebar (to keep the cable distance minimum; less clutter on the inside)

I have not seen a record stop / start extension trigger - but if one could be created:
+) Feed the remote record cable down the left handlebar and emerge to a button on the left grip.

Lastly - now that we have an almost symmetrical system, with the ability to put weight on either shoulder:
+) Put the same release (quick release pro?) mechanism on both sides of the collar
+) When you get tired of using one side of your body, you can now switch to the other.

Hey Albert, looks like you have some interest in the shoulder pads, maybe we should make a few.. on a related note, my "Screen Door" works nice with shoulder rigs too
